Painted Toughbooks
Here are two CF-M34's I did in OD green and desert colors (plus a CF-28 I also did) to get an idea of what you can do with some time and rattle cans.

Re: Painted Toughbooks
Very nice! I have plans to do a little work like this to a few of mine as well along with a few other cosmetic mods.
Re: Painted Toughbooks
Robert,
I have resized these pics. 1600x1200 makes it impossible to read. Next time try to keep em around 800x600 resolution.
Thanks!

Re: Painted Toughbooks
I am receiving 11 CF-m34s this week. All working well, but with heavy used outer shielding....
Silver Trooper, you used Spray paint / Rattle cans. Could you tell me, if the paint is still perfect on these CF-m34s, or has it started to crumble/let loose ?
I also intend to use spray cans for painting my 11 + 3 CF-m34s. If I use ordinary car-paint spray cans, would that work ? It seems that i also have to use some sanding paper before painting.
Any more hints, concerning cheap but good paint for toughbooks ?

Re: Painted Toughbooks
Don't use cheap paint, it will come back to bite you on the @ss. That's what happen to me on a couple 51's I did. Now I use Krylon Fusion "Hammered Finish" (#2532 Silver Hammered) and Dupli-Color "Perfect Match" #CBHA0998 Quartz Silver (Auto Paint) . I have also used Purple, Pink, Blue and Dark Grey. I use 400 grit sand paper and use good quality primer if needed then at least 5 coats of paint. I have not tried any clear coat yet...just in case you ask

Re: Painted Toughbooks
Prep well (sanding and tack rag), prime well (sand each coat) and use a good paint (Krylon or VHT) and it will last quite well. However, none of the paint you use will last as good as powder coating or baked on coatings like Cerakote and Duracoat. Mine are still in good shape, but I tend not to abuse them as many owners are prone to do.

Re: Painted Toughbooks
They look very nice, good job. I am giving my friend a CF-27 and think I shall do a paint job on it. He stepped on his Mac Book laptop and busted the screen, think he had a few beers just before. Had to laugh, even though he was working out how to pay for repairs and explain it to the wife. Happy days.
