Changing o/s from XP to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1
Changing o/s from XP to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1
I have owned my CF-52 from new in 2008. I am beginning to have problems with new software not being compatible with XP. Are there problems associated with upgrading the o/s that I should be aware of ?

Rob may have a Win7 recovery DVD that will work on that model..
You will have to provide a valid COA key. The DVD should install but since you have a XP unit, you will need to manually install a valid Win7 COA key after the install is complete. Otherwise it will not activate.

Re: Changing o/s from XP to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1
Shawn: I am looking to replace the existing XP with a later version of Windows - have not decided on which one because I do not know if any of them are compatible with the installed hardware and software that came with the CF-52. I do not understand what use I would have for a recovery disc.
Re: Changing o/s from XP to Windows 7, 8 or 8.1
A CF52G will run Win7 perfectly. I'm using one now. Have 8000 hrs on Win7 on this unit.
The recovery DVD I am talking about is the official Panasonic DVD for installing Win7 on a CF52G. It will install everything in about 15 minutes.

Shawn: If it is not obvious, I am not a computer whiz but I appreciate your patience and reply. So who is this "Ron" and how do I "talk" to him about this recovery disk ?
Blair: I do not understand the significance of your post - an explanation, please.

Barbarian..... Blair copy and pasted your build (decoded from your model number) from the Panasonic Configurator website. We commonly do this so that you know exactly what you have if you are new to Toughbooks.
ROB is the owner of this website and works for the best Panasonic distributor in the country. He has a large collection of Panasonic stuff from years in the business. You can PM him by the name ROB.
Personally... I would go with Windows 7... A tried and true easy installation that works great. If you want extra bang... Install an SSD prior to OS installation. You'll think you are Superman when finished!

Rugged Toughbooks of all types... CF-31s, CF-30s, CF-29s, CF-19s, CF-52s, CF-53s, CF-74s, CF-H2... Hmmm... What else can I buy, build or modify?

The title of this thread makes me think algebra
W8=W7+XP-8.1
