PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
I have an oportunity to test the above module courtesy from Blair. This is the result of what this PCMCIA gps module can do to CF-18 toughbook. The set has a sarantel antena but I have no way to temporarilly install this into the CF-18 instead i used the oen stock antena of the cf-18 by rewiring the system. The antena pigtail is connected to U.fl connector into the passthru connector in place of WWAN since those area is not usually use as of to date. Then A 12" jumper wire is connected from the second u.fl connector of WWAN and other end is connected into the GPS module on the PCMCIA. Here a couple of picture for reference.
The test was conducted inside my aprtment at ground level. It has a descent signal and can pick up satelite as many as it can. This is a way better than the oem gps of the cf-18 If you don't know how to tune up properly.

ADOR said it will fit I think but you have to do some mod to it.

Re: PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
Blair, If Ador is talking about the sarantel antena into the original cage and then srewed it up on to the outside or entrance of the PCMCIA of CF-18 like on gobook. It looks terible with bump out sticking upward. Its better to use the oem stock antena of the CF-18.
BTW, I will send the set prolly on Monday if we do not have work( start to slow down due to coming holiday season) with that set of an antena from CF-18. When you do the installation just follow what was on the picture and the reference sketch above. Did you dowloaded already the driver for PCMCIA gps? It is available at yahoo forum file.

Re: PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
Yeah the CF-19 has a combo slot, PC card and Express card with a metal plate separating them. So have to remove or cut the metal plate to get the tall GPS card into the PC card slot. Need some advice so the CF-19 does not get ruined doing this mod.toughasnails wrote:ADOR said it will fit I think but you have to do some mod to it.

Re: PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
Ken, Oh yah! I've seen now what was all about on the cf-19 and your correct. there is a divider metal plate between the two slot. My suggestion for those, so that not to distroy anything is to dismantle the mbo. and then take out the the whole cage before the cut. With this the mbo. or the whole sysytem(mbo.) will be safe just incase something unexpected happened.
Btw, before you slide in the module make sure it will be look like this on the picture so not much cable loose or to tight.

Teo, can you please resize that pic to 800x600? Makes it hard to read the text with it that big.
Thanks much

Re: PCMCIA Gps module from Gobook to CF-18 toughbook
Teo, is it possible to swap a CF-18 dual PC card cage assembly into the CF-19? Unplug the 19 EX + PC cage and plug in a dual PC cage from the 18? Happen to have an extra CF-18 on hand (thanks to Blair!), so already have the extra PC cage.teo wrote:Ken, Oh yah!
