Mk3 strange screws
Mk3 strange screws
Hi All, my Mk3 arrived today, see what you all me about the screen, its fantastic, this one has I think factory GPS fitted, on the lid its got 2 long screws so you cant clip the screen down when its turned round, what do you think these are for, maybe some sort of vehicle mount ? the main thing is how do I change them, Ive tried to undo them and the screws turn but dont come out, I dont want to break anything
Thanks
Thanks

Re: Mk3 strange screws
Wow! Very odd. Congrats BTW
You will LOVE IT!
Yeah, I'd contact Blair (Toughasnails) about getting the correct screws for this. I'm not quite sure why they are like that...

Re: Mk3 strange screws
I believe the stock screws at that position have a nut inside the display case. You would need to open the case to hold the nut to get the screws off and put standard screws in. Definitely don't unscrew and leave the nut loose inside the case or it might short out something.

Re: Mk3 strange screws
That is what you need to do. My guess the nut that was on it is gone. My guess the last person that was working on the lid thought that they needed to take that screw out too so they could pull the lid apart and then lost the very small flat nut...don't ask me how I knowSpringfield wrote:I believe the stock screws at that position have a nut inside the display case. Re: Mk3 strange screws
Ive opened it, pic 1 (screw1) is whats inside, the nut had threadlock on so was spinning with the screw and did not fall off, I took the nut off and was going to use just for now the screws and nuts from the Mk1 but they are not long enough as the inside of the lid is slightly different, pic2 (screw3) is the inside of the lid from Mk3 with the strange screws, you can see it got a raised collar maybe for extra extra strength, pic 3 & 4 (screw 5&6 ) is the inside of a Mk1, with, as you say the half moon nut its also flat where the nut goes on and not raised like the Mk3, so looks like Im going to need the screws that are long i enough to pass through to get a nut on the back

Re: Mk3 strange screws
I can get you one which is no problem. I have an order going out Friday BUT when will I get it is the problem. My last order most stuff was on back order and this one looks like it will be the same. I called to check prices and if in stock and I got the back order story again....30 days from the time they get my money order. Now some where I have one that I got for a customer that never paid for it so if I can find it I will let you know and if I can't do you want me to order one for you.

Re: Mk3 strange screws
Have a look at the picture I took from the service manuals. Your MK3 is different from the MK1/2. Do you only need 1 screw or are both like that. The way I see it the MK3 has no nut...is that true ?
