Remote Access to home (VPN?)

So i've got an old linksys wireless B router and i wanted to set it up so i can access my computer at home while i'm at work. but i don't know anything about ?vpns?.
can anyone give me any pointers?

If you have XP Pro/Win Vista Business/Win 7 Business or higher then you can use remote desktop if you open up port 3389 to your workstation and enable remote access. If you have XP home the you can use VNC through port 5900. A remote VPN access would require a static IP and some VERY advanced network knowledge and setup.
