After I had my 19's dock open to fix the latch, I thought of why it wouldn't be possible to make a small "slice" thing that fits under the 19. I had a ThinkPad X220 earlier this year and it came with a UltraBase, which I really, really liked.
Would this be possible or would it require extensive reconfiguration of the dock?
Idea: "UltraBase"-like dock for 19?
Re: Idea: "UltraBase"-like dock for 19?
Do you mean a dock for a vehicle? Or for a desk?
A 19 will be difficult since the laptops docking port is on the base of the machine.
A 31 would be easier since it's port is at the rear.
Look at this for a vehicle.

Neither of those, a portable dock is what I am thinking of. This is a UB for a X220: http://img03.imgland.net/jq3jlrF.jpgShawn wrote:Do you mean a dock for a vehicle? Or for a desk?

If I can mod my dock into something like this, that would be awesome!
By the way, if Rob reads this: [img] tags are broken. Getting some weird error if I try to post a image?

Like this? It's the CF19 desktop dock. Panasonic calls it a port replicator.

That's the same dock as I have, except mine's the much, much cheaper VEB181U.Shawn wrote:Like this? It's the CF19 desktop dock. Panasonic calls it a port replicator.

Re: Idea: "UltraBase"-like dock for 19?
Hi User32,
I'm also using the VEB181 (cf18 model), as it is cheaper than the current VEB191 (cf19 model).
The only downside that I am aware of, is the slow usb 2.0 speed.
Why do you want to use the ultrabase dock?
If its for added battery life: Why not get a new battery and/or carry an additional battery with you?

UB doesn't have a secondary battery, and i'm not it doing for that. I'm doing it for extra ports and because I canKarl Klammer wrote:Hi User32,

For my CF-19 I have a thin dock that can run off usb power or wall power. It has a hookup for SATA dvd drive and a slot for a extra sata hard drive. It's a universal type that plugs into a usb port. Let me see if I can find a pictures since I am at work.
