The beginning of my toughbook oddessy...
Hello, everyone! After years of worshipping from afar, I finally have my first toughbook. It's a CF-30GTJZZAM, and once I realized it has no wireless capabilities, I ordered a CF-19KHRAX2M... there really is a toughbook bug...
Anywho, I just wanted introduce myself, and thank everyone for the wealth of information here. It's been a huge help, and I look forward to learning everything I can from you all! Thanks again!

Re: The beginning of my toughbook oddessy...
Blair,
Do you know of a tutorial for lifting the keyboard with-out bending it? A lot of these G models are coming out. In my case a CF19G....just needed a card and one or two reboots.
Shawn sent me a long blade (like a frosting spreader) that works to pop the adhesive. Big point is to give the glue time to come loose. Also a lot of the stock CF-30 KBs have pins that lock into the bottom case. My first one surprised me.
For the CF-29 I pull the hinges and slide a screwdriver through past the hinges to lift the KB. I have seriously hurt a couple of KBs learning the tricks.
Slightly OT
J'd...btw...welcome john_...

I also got surprised by those pins on that CF-30 you sent me. I had an extra backlit keyboard from a 29 that I successfully swapped on it, but not after bending the original keyboard on the 30. What got me was that the keyboard on the 29 doesn't have those pins and I really wasn't expecting that on the 30, so I thought I was dealing with some sort of powerful adhesive.

Daily drives a CF-31
Re: The beginning of my toughbook oddessy...
Someone mentioned reading the manual one time but mostly I have avoided it.
I don't bend them anymore.
I took one blkb out one time in four pieces.
I don't bend them anymore.

I pried so hard I broke one of the pins, the entire time saying" holy cow ! they glued this thing down."kode-niner wrote:I also got surprised by those pins on that CF-30 you sent me. Apologies to OP but sharing is good for the soul.
My intent was to point out that there are tricks to be learned before diving in. Dive in by all means but read then ask first.
