1. Does the line show all the time...even when there are no windows open and the desktop only is showing?
2. Have any changes been made to the laptop lately (software/hardware)?
3. How old is the laptop?
4. Has it been dropped or mishandled recently?
One CF-52, four CF-18's, 4.5 CF-28's, one CF-29, five CF-M34's, two CF-37's, one CF-P2 and two CF-P1's. There are also two Getac A320T's, one Fieldpac and two IBM Transnotes. Not to mention the AMD 5600 CPU with three monitors and several HP PDA's. Whew! Must quit buying...no, must have MORE! Then there are the weapons...

The line shows all the time . She said it was not dropped but she has 2 small kids Not sure how old it is....5 years + - its a 1.4 mhz so its been around for a while. You don't see it in the bios screen.I was thinking maybe reload windows ? It was shut down the other night and restarted the next day and it was their. Blair

Try minimal resoulution first. If that has no effect, try booting into safe mode and see if it shows there also. If it still shows in both, you may want to try a Windows repair first. Last resort would be to back up everything and reload Windows. Just curious, have you tried to hook up an external monitor? Just a thought as it may point out if it is a problem with the video card vs. the LCD.

My daughter has not dropped off the laptop yet but I hope in the next couple of days she can so I can try the external monitor and get back to you. Blair

If it does not show on the external, I would put my money on a bad LCD. If the backlight was bad, it would either work or not work. I don't think just part of it would be dark as in a flourescent tube. I certainly wouldn't take my opinion as gospel, wait and see what the others have to say.
