Looks like we are reading some of the same material.

Should above be done while flickering? I stop flicker by two methods. MK3 only. (I thought MK1 was the same fix but it re-starts flickering)
1. Shut lid...stand-by for 5 -7 seconds. Open it and no flicky.
2. Set screen to lcd in bios. F10 [Save]

So echo 0 shuts powersave off?

Yes it does. But if it can be handled in BIOS, I would consider the problem solved. Or am I missing something?

It's a two part scheme here....MK3 handles in bios MK1 does not, Mint 16 no issues. I am looking for why. CF-29 no issue. I don't use an external monitor but others may.

BTW vesa is uncommented in the blacklist.

I have installed SolydX32 onto a Samsung 1/8" ssd in a CF-29LTQGZBM that has a U-blox GPS system installed.
The unit works well, as does the GPS system thanks to Sadlmkr and his posts about running a Gobi card under Mint.
I originally could not get CuteCom to detect anything, so I went into the BIOS and started going through the 3 different IRQ choices, when the GPS was changed from Auto to ON. This U-blox system seems to like I/O IRQ: 2E8/IRQ10, which is TTYS3, com 4 in MSpeak. In Terminal I used "sudo gpsd -D5 -N -n /dev/ttyS3" and it seemed to work well.
The downside is the nav software, FoxtrotGPS. There is no way to enter an address and get it to map a route to the address from where you are. You can use waypoint to map a crude route, but it is very cumbersome when not sitting somewhere with an Internet connection.
I was going to try the Navigatrix OS, but if you need to load and run FoxtrotGPS for land nav, what is the point over Mint or Soyd, what is/are the advantage(s) of Navigatrix?
I have not tried the desktop autostart that Cleve came up with, as I am not sure if it is only for Navigatrix or will work under Mint or Solyd.

Morgan, regarding your above post: A quick note here to answer, I'll start another thread soon. Sorry in advance for the somewhat long-winded response - I have not tried Foxtrot in terms of mapping a trip from A to B. Your point well taken if there is no way to use it other than with waypoints. Did you try downloading the Open Street Maps for your area? I tried this while at home on with internet, you right click on the map and choose how much detail to save to your hard drive. Maps are saved under a folder labeled Maps, just like Docs, Downloads, etc. That way while out and about with toughbook and gps, you have the Open Street Maps available via Foxtrot with out internet. I have several links at work pc, of a bicyclist that used a netbook to map out his travels with Linux, and converted Garmin gps tracks to the map for review each night using Linux. I'll do some searching about other possibilities, I think you are alluding to ms streets and maps with windows.
Navigatrix OS was stumbled upon, and by reading their forums I found how to configure gpsd and get the toughbook gps to show up. Navigatrix is a Debian/Ubuntu "rolling" release that is light on resources and very stable. It can be run on a usb drive only, or installed to the hard drive. I liked it and kept using it, especially on the CF-28 & CF-30. Troubles with Mint 17 lead us to the Debian "rolling release" based Solyd X as an alternative for the CF-29. Interestingly, if you go to the Mint Webpage now you can only download 13 or 17, none of the others are available. Ask Jeff about 15, it's basically obsolete. Your notes bring back memories of "geo-caching" with a hand-held Garmin gps. I would go out and find the hidden "caches", and then come back home connecting the gps to Windows XP, and downloading the waypoints. I would then download new waypoints from a mapping program into the hand held gps, and go out again seeking hidden treasure. At any rate, maybe a blend of hand held and pc is being used by some for navigation on land. Just not sure they use Linux or another operating system. More to follow. Thanks for the reply. I have downloaded both the OSM and OpenCycleMaps from level 18 to level 6. That amounts to all of Western Canada and parts of NW US. The fact that there is no way, that I can find, to input an address and have the program map a route makes it fairly useless to me. I only need a nav program when I am going somewhere I have not been to before. I will contact the developer and ask if there are plans to include the feature in the next update. Yes, MS S&T2013 is what I use on the Windoze units, so that is what I compared it to.
I think I will try Navigatrix on a CF-18MK5 I still have. I don't know what problems they are/were having with MInt 16, I have been running it on a CF-29MK3 since it was released. Only problem I had was that the first update broke Firefox. I reinstalled and told Update Manager to ignore Firefox updates and all is well. I installed it on 4 or 5 CF-29MK4s I gave away and everyone seems happy with it.
I do like SolydX on this CF-29MK4. I might try SolydK on my CF-19MK4 as I have a spare ssd. Thanks for posting the link about updating SolydX. I initially had problems, but got it straightened around. I did use some of the code, posted in the link, to verify that all updates had been installed proper.
I have not had much time to play with Solyd or install Navigatrix as I have been busy sorting, packing, and shipping. Things have slowed down some, as I wait for funds to finish, so I might be able to try Navigatrix in the next few days.

Morgan, thanks for the update, you've been busy! I'm interested in how the CF-18 plays with Navigatrix, please let me know how it goes. I know Garmin & MapSource have something similar to what you'd like, but that is probably only with windows. Maybe a VirtualMachine or Wine would work?
