Well someone donated to me a M34 that needs some help...
First thing was a DOA battery.....
I found a 2 year old DELL battery pack here from a toasted laptop..Cut it open and it had the correct cells...
I resoldered some tabs and fit it into the M34 battery case....
Plugged in the VCBTB1 external battery charger and I got the flashing RED light.......
Checked and the cells still have good voltage, so the eeprom needs reset...(I am guessing)
Just wanted to give a heads up to ReCell your batteries BEFORE they are totally toast..(flashing RED)
I will try it in the M34 when my old style adapter gets here...I had one that I tossed about 2 months ago..because I wasn't going to get any of those OLD style Toughbooks again........

So did I, from what I read here...
http://toughbook.wikispaces.com/CF-M34+battery+re-cell
But, if you read it carefully, he used a still working battery, not one that was already flashing RED.
The M34 may not have a life cycle counter like the newer batteries do, But I am guessing there is some sort of fail safe for when the eeprom senses a bad cell etc...(flashing RED). Locks the board out as soon as it gets anything that triggers the RED flashing ....
If you swap the cells BEFORE the RED flashing charge light, you are fine....Once it flashes RED you are done...
The only other "possibility" is that he recelled an older battery and the newer ones have different circuitry...

Actually didn't complete that project yet. Shawn does yours flash red right away, or steady orange for 10-20 sec then red? Think mine did the latter.ADOR wrote:Springfield did a recell a little while back and had it work.

Re: M34..Battery ReCell ..rebuild ...fail
I'm setting the M34 aside for a day or two..I need to get the ac adapter before I can even run it.
I have a CF19 that I want to concentrate on....
