Definitely! That would be a great way to add an ssd to older units. Maybe if they get enough emails, they might release an IDE version.

Re: A different kind of SSD
I've used simple CF to IDE converters that work OK in CF-18 etc. Problem there is CF cards are pretty expensive, especially for faster X133 speed.
With USB sticks getting so cheap, wonder if someone has or can make a USB stick to IDE 2.5" drive board.

Re: A different kind of SSD
I think I have seen something like that, let me look for anything new.
I see the sata model on ebay for a lot cheaper than 80 bucks.
Just ordered some of these to see how good they work. Single SD card to IDE male.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SD-Card-to-1-8- ... 3a64aad235
As cheap as 9 bucks shipped.

I still have about 4 compact flash to IDE adapters. I still use two of them. 8gb and 4gb running xp. One is in the Mk7 CF-M34 the other the CF-28 Mk2.
A ide board with a 3.0 usb interface would work well.

Re: A different kind of SSD
I think one of the SD to IDE units would work well w/a 128GB SD card. I think I will get one and try it. That would probably operate quicker than the 1/8" 128GB Samsung SATA ssd connected to a SATA to IDE convertor setup I am running now in the CF-18Mk1

Re: A different kind of SSD
I'm gonna try the 1.8" SD rig on an older CF-07 Tough-Brick. It runs OK now on a CF-IDE setup but only 4 GB (cuz CF is expensive and I'm cheap).
One concern with these SSD alternatives is whether they can handle the load reliably. USB, SD and even CF were not designed to handle millions of write cycles, which is a major focus for maturing true SSDs. Fine for experimentation but I don't plan to try this setup in a "mission critical" application
any time soon.

Re: A different kind of SSD
If I am remembering right the MAX speed of IDE is 133 MBps. I got one on the way to speed test to see how it goes.
I remember seeing a guy that make a thing that plugged into the wall to just do reads and writes to see how long a compact flash would write. From what I remembered I wouldn't worry about it on a good brand name CF.
Let me see if I can dig up the article.
Couldn't find it. But I think they said on 24hrs for 3 or 4 years was ok, lol.

Re: A different kind of SSD
Even though IDE can technically do 133, it usually ran at 100 because of the cable used. Also, realistic speeds are 40m or less.

Re: A different kind of SSD
Ok, the IDE to SD card adapter came in today. I can test this out on CF-28 and M34. What type tests do you want to see? I haven't even took it out of the wrapper yet. Got home late from the shop.

The SATA to 4 micro SD cards is on sale for 32 bucks shipped right now, If anyone was still thinking of playing with one.
I still haven't got to open and play with the other card yet, may be a take to work project, lol.
