See the updated post in NBR on Ubuntu 10.10 by H-Bert. I believe he indicated this was the only tweak needed for his CF-30. Is it o.k. to cut and paste 'cross forum'?
CF-30 ubuntu 10.10 - lcd brightness control:
edit /etc/default/grubsudo gedit /etc/default/grub
add "acpi_osi=" to this line -> GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX= so that it reads
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="acpi_osi="
save and update grub by running
sudo update-grub
reboot and enjoy
