I am not really sure but I think the 51 caddy from Heartlands is just under $60.00 but that is not counting shipping ( )

well one thing about it, it will be shipped pronto, so multiple units purchased with same shipping price per unit( maybe 3 caddys for 25.00) and any additional parts you may need might make this your best choice, they are new and I got less for the same price. like the little guy in Lethal Weapon, they!!!! you at the drive thru, they !!!! you at the drive thru! I was told to pucker up and do it.........Driller

Hi all,
It's been a while and I wish you folks well. From what I've been reading, you guys are making leaping progress in cpu upgrades!

Times here aren't any better and I've kept my nose clean from fleabay (for now) but there's a local chap selling a Intel® Core™2 Duo Processor T7100 (2M Cache, 1.80 GHz, 800 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLA3U, SLA4A for approx US$38 (after conversion).

Is performance gain and/or other benefits, from T2300 to T7100, worth the swap? Seem to be a 'minor' upgrading Duo Core 1.66 to C2D 1.8 Ghz. Looking out for a local T7200 but nothing so far. Comments?

Cheers!
Ron in SG

Ron , No sure if that would work or not since its a 800 MHz FSB. We are using the 677 FSB because we know that works. Driller tried the T7500 which is a 800FSB and would not work but so far the T7200 and the T7600 work great (667FSB). I picked up two T7200 for $40.00 shipped each and yes it was worth it. This thing runs some good and fast :pbjt:

Hi Ron
My post on pg 2 of the thread pointed to the fsb issue as Blair reports
The T7200 is the best bang for the buck
I see them for $50 , or less

Hey! Ron, Hows life down there? I've spent almost two month in PI and to my suprised it has a big difference now.

Also few of my relative works now there in SG as welder, elect..n, and a couple of my fellow elect'l engineer are also right down there. So, it means the economy there is getting better.

Alex, I hear 'ya about T7200 being best bang. I just have to keep my eyes peeled at local ads for a better bang! (scored and replaced my fried wifi router with a used Dlink DIR-855 and 2pcs of Seagate 1.5Tb HDDs at a fraction of a good restaurant meal!)

Blair, you guys are close to a huge stockpile of goodies and shipping to where I am makes a huge difference. I can wait it out a little longer for a local T7200, possibly T7600??!! . Trying very hard NOT to dibble into fleabay as I usually end up with more than I actually need. It doesn't help that those buybest fellas don't do international (they have very good prices!) but let's admit it... we *all* suffer the same bloody itch! :P

Teo, I suppose I'm doing ok (heh... still alive ain't I?) Recently converted my study room into a very small home workshop for light jobs that don't require power-hungry 15amp equipment. Still, it's tough riding thru' daily uncertainties.

Truth be told that our 'window-dressed' economy is finely balanced between those who are at the reign of local political machinery, those who are desperately holding onto a job and those not in gainful employ.

On the surface, our economy may appear rosy with *some* sectors employing. However, many companies engage foreign workers on short term contracts (like the relatives you mentioned) for lower wage costs. For my previous profession, many private practitioners and dental groups have resorted to outsourcing work to 3rd world countries like Indonesia, Vietnam but mostly China now (as are most products made these days and no, they don't make 'em like they used to!)

How long have you been away from PI? Hope you enjoyed your brief stay and had your fill of baluts! :D

Keep well,
Ron in SG

When I got my first CF-51 from them which I am using now I paid like $40.00 for it but now they have gone way up. I watched a couple like mine with fingerprint reader go for $123.00 - $147.00 plus shipping last month. They don't ship to canada but I have a address in the USA which works good for me.
Keep in touch Ron

Blair, at the rate we've been bringing awareness to others via our mods, discussions and interesting finds, why would that be any surprise?

My buddy, poisoned on Toughbooks by me, asked to BIN for 2 sets of CF-51RC4KFBM @ $114, for family use. These will be shipped to my parcel-forwarding address in Oregon (buybest wouldn't entertain any non-USA verified Paypal accounts, so...).

According to the configurator;
Intel Core Duo T2300 1.66GHz (Centrino), 15" XGA, 1GB, 80GB, 56K, 1Gb Ethernet, Intel 802.11a/b/g, DVD-Multi drive, FDD, WinXP SP2,SmartCard,Fingerprint.

He is reading topics on NBR as well and since his financial situation is better off than mine, he will probably up one of the 51s to T7200 before me. Do we have anything for this model in the "private zone"?

Thanks a bunch!
Ron in SG
