This might be something you CF-51 owners might want to look into. Rusty503 posted this on NBR that he upgraded his Cf-51 MK3 Core Duo T2500 2.0MHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7500 2.2MHz.
Taken from NBR
Re: Toughbook fever?
The processors in the CF-51s are definitely upgradeable. I recently upgraded one of my CF-51 MK3s to a T7500 processor. I will give more details later.
First thing to do is grab a copy of CPU-Z and look at the motherboard chipset that you have. Next, research on the web to find what processors that chipset will support. I don't remember all the specifics that led me to determine my CF-51 would in fact support the T7500. After my research I tried the T7500 and let me tell you, mine SCREAMS now. Your research will turn up very little about upgrading the CPU on Panasonics but you will find much more on doing this on Dells and HPs.
Once I get all my stuff from Iraq and finish my move, I can post more info on this.

So what I have found out without looking at the mother board is if I am right it should work in mine to, at least the sockets are the same.
This was from the Intel site
Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2300 @1.66
Intel® Core? Duo Processor T2300 (2M Cache, 1.66 GHz, 667 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SL8VR, SL8VV, SL9JL, SL9JY

UPDATE
The T7200 , T7400 and the T7600 will work, These all have 667MHz FSB which supports the 51 motherboard / chipset...see my post farther down the page

It will just further increase the price on the cf-51's :pat:

Anyways the info on what mk numbers work for the upgrades would be helpful , it would be interesting if all mks could be upgraded to a top of the line processer

i don't know much on these, I sold a couple of mk-2's a few years ago and never had any issues with them
A report on the diferences between the mk's would be nice if you guys have them

When I bought by Duo Core I got it cheap around $50.00 shipped + $20.00 for the caddy. It had a finger print reader and 2GB memory installed too. I see now they are going from $100.00 to $170.00 which is nuts. I have 4GB memory,160GB HD on Windows 7 Ultimate installed now and it's fast but if I can upgrade it to a Core 2 Duo...why not. Also it was super easy to install Windows 7 on it too, no problems at all.

The first 3 years ago was $1000 and the second mk2 was $500 around a year and 1/2 ago
Most of my customers are businesses and although they might concider $2000 too much for a laptop, $1000 for a like new model works for them

There was a lot of modding done on the cf-72's
Here's a link ,it's not real active anymore with NBR and Toughbooktalk being the most popular forums but it might give you some idea's

Blair,
IIRC, I think we both have the same 51s (CF-51RCLDFBM). Am curious though... how will the BIOS take to the new CPU? I ran CPU-Z and it reported;
Intel Core Duo T2300E
Codename : Yonah
T2300 @ 1.66GHz
Socket 479 mPGA (0x5)

Yes its the same. Not sure how the BIOS take to it. The thing is rusty's 51 was a T2500 2.0MHz. Not sure if they used the same MB in ours or not. I do know the socket is the same. I have a Dell XPS with a Core 2 Duo in it and if I can find a service manual for it I just might pull it apart. Below is what info CPU-Z gave me.
CF-51 XPS
Chipset.... i945GM i945PM
Socket......479mPGA 479mPGA
Technology 65nm 65nm

When I get home late tonight I will post a pic of the dell info

Ron, if you go to the 2 intel links I posted and click on "Compatible Products" on the left the T2300E is compatible with
T2300E Compatible Chipsets
Mobile Intel 945GM Express Chipset
Mobile Intel 945GME Express Chipset
Mobile Intel 945PM Express Chipset

T7500 Compatible Chipsets
Mobile Intel® GME965 Express Chipset

Going by this its not compatible but as we know most companys don't want us to know what really works ;) . All the T2000 CPU's use the same chipset so we could upgrade to the T2700 2.33MHz but the price  for them is more that the T7500. I do hope that Rusty gets back to us and how he found out it will work. I just don't want to fry a very good working toughbook

Update
Something I just noticed is the chipset on my dell

T7200 2.0MHz
Mobile Intel® 945PM Express Chipset with 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M)
and the CF-51
Mobile Intel® 945GM Express Chipset with 82801GBM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7M)

This is the only CPU in the T7000's that use this chipset :D . The rest use the GME965 Express Chipset

Update
Gork from NBR found this at Toms Guide
The two key aspects of Intel's Centrino Duo Mobile technology are Core Duo mobile CPUs and the 945PM Express and 945GM Express chipsets. The 945PM is used in mobile computers with discrete graphics processors - graphics processors that are external to the 945 chipset - and provides all chipset functionality but the graphics functionality provided by the discrete graphics processor itself. The 945GM, which also supports discrete processors but is not as cost effective as the 945PM if a discrete processor is used, includes an integrated graphics processor, the Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (GMA 950). Aside from the graphics differences, the two chips are identical.

Well I pulled the T7200 Core 2 Duo out of my dell which was very interesting :cussing: ....it's no toughbook for sure. Anyways I put it in my 51 which has the bad keyboard connector and nothing. So I said crap, that bites so I started to put it together......well as I was putting it together it hit me, I pulled the memory sticks out so I took it apart again and dropped the Duo in it again.....BINGO :pbjt: , check out the pic

So we know for sure a T7200 will work

OOooo.... I like what I see!! :D Did you use a chip extractor to remove the Dell's T7200 processor or does the socket uses a ZIF latch? Sorry, I've not taken apart my 51 yet, so I'm guessing mostly.
