Need some help: How to replace 256 GB with 2 TB on MK5?

I bought a very nice CF-31 MK5 and would like to replace the 256GB SSD with a 2 TB SSD I have arriving tomorrow. I can't believe how little there is on the internet on how to do this as far as reinstalling windows on a new SSD and getting the drivers installed.

I have the driver packs for the laptop and the wireless card, the guy I bought it from put them in folders for me to put on a thumb drive.

I just need simple step by step instructions. Anybody have a document they can email me or copy and paste here?

Thanks everyone!

Pat

What OS?

You can also use cloning software to transfer your current install to the new SSD and wouldn't have to re-install anything.

I was going to just do Windows 10 for now. The guy I bought the Toughbook from is a police officer who has a side business with these things and is sending me a version of Windows 11 on a thumb drive that I want to keep and install later. For now just Windows 10 Pro. I have thought about cloning software but don't know exactly how to do it. Is there cloning software with instructions that will guide you through it?

I have used acronis myself. But there are several other options.

It's pretty much plug in your new ssd into the usb port on your computer using a adapter. Then follow the pop up guide of the software. Then just install your new SSD.

I got it done!!! I had an old ssd enclosure I forgot I had and the new 2TB Crucial ssd drive allowed me to use Acronis and it worked GREAT!!! Cloned the drive and now I am just testing it right now even as I type here. This is the way...

Next step is to decide if you just want to back up a image. Then keep or wipe that drive for another project. OR keep it in a enclosure for a portable SSD storage drive.

I'm going to keep the ssd as a recovery type backup.
