Ok Rob, now you can take some relaxing breaths.

Looks pretty cool. Probably a little too expensive for the casual user like me. I'll have to wait a few years for some second hand.
We get some rules to follow.

What are your personal thoughts on it compared to the 31? Glad to see another fully rugged out.

It's a total beast.... I've seen it next to the 31 and it's the SAME durability but thinner. Also it's IP66, not IP65 which is a HUGE thing for use in the rain/outside! :)

Looks okay. At least it is a real laptop, not another tablet w/an optional keyboard.

The downside, at least for a bunch of us, is all the secure this-and-that from M$/Intel.

Rob, can you stick a live linux thumb drive in a unit (must have a demo unit, eh) and see if it will boot from it? I doubt it will. And if you can't boot from a linux thumb drive you will have a hard time installing. The worlds most wide spread virus and security hole working to secure our laptops. I feel much better now.

As far as the hardware is concerned, nice upgrade from the 31's.
CF-29LTQ,CF-31SBM,CF-52youngGUN,

Life's Journey is not to arrive safely at the grave in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways totally worn-out shouting 'Woo Hoo! What a ride!

Motorsports - the only real sport. If it doesn't have a motor, it is just a game.

There is always something waiting at the end of the road, if you are not willing to see what it is, you probably shouldn't be out there in the first place.

I like it, yes it is expensive but it's horses for courses isn't it. A Mac user pays alot for a Mac because it does what they need it to do especially things like audio abd or video editing. Toughbooks are expensive because of their strength and now modularity that helps them to live in extremely harsh conditions. The only thing that is missing from it for me is a parallel port, the CF29 was the last unit to have them and I use them for tuning cars.

CF-D1 (Debian 11, Windows 10, trying BlissOS)

If it is locked into Windows then that is a deal breaker for me. Linux should be able to be installed on anything that is why we have SecureBoot that looks for a signature of a recognised OS, which Linux is. If they have done a deal to stop allowing other OS' then as nice as it is I'll stick to the machines I have now.

Michael, I don't know if that is the case or not. From the bits I scanned about Secure boot the impression I got was that it was another deal like UEFI, trying to keep Linux from being installed. That is why I am asking Rob to try and run a live Linux on his demo.

UEFI wasn't intended to keep Linux off machines. UEFI is motherboard firmware and was needed because BIOS had outlived its usefulness and was getting pretty clunky. There are ways to stop other OS' being installed but that could have been done in the old BIOS systems as well.
