Itronix GD8200

As my CF30 still rests att the bottom of a lake, and my CF-29 is well past its prime, its time to nab so.ething rugged to replace them.

Been looking at the GD8200 on ebay, looks like a solid rig for 300 bucks. Whats the verdict on these? Do they get the job done? Special issues?

Nice 2nd gen i7 cookie! Not as good as a CF-31 IMHO though!

Since GD has folded their rugged laptop division it will be VERY VERY hard to get parts for these so keep that in mind!

You can put whatever HDD/SSD you want in it as it has the caddy!! :)

BTW,

GD is the 3rd largest US defense contractor in the world... Guess which rugged laptop they use now? That's right, Panasonic! :)

Because that one, for instance, doesn't ship internationally. I'm located in Sweden. I fact very few ship internationally.

As for the parts, even with toughbooks, there is no parts market here. I have to import everything from the US, so its cant be that much worse.

I really dont want to be unfaithful to Panasonic, the Toughbooks have served me so well. Even if i'm always a few generations behind due to economic reasons. But at this point the GD is the most bang for your buck.

I would be willing to put a 10% buyers premium on whatever you want to buy and sell it to you as I do ship to Sweden.

As a matter of fact my Fedex rates are insane too. I'd bet I can ship you a CF-31 for only around $75 USD or less via Fedex International Priority.

You can buy that item and have it shipped to my office and I'll charge shipping + whatever the 10% fee is for whatever you're buying.

I think i'm just gonna go with a semi-local (UK) Toughbook CF-19 MK5. The price is basically the same. I foolishly assumed the GD had a higher res screen than the crappy XGA in the CF-19. Turns out that is not the case. From what I understand the performance difference isn't that drastic, and i feel more comfortable with toughbooks anyway.

EDIT: Assuming i can find one that has working touch. Seems to be uncommon...

Mk5's for 350 GBP are a rip off. Mk6's on the other hand not so much.

True, but the MK5s are nearly full spec, and this i as barebones as you can get if i'm reading the breakdown sheet correctly. Can always add spare ram and one of the dozen ssds i have laying around, but retrofitting​ everything else is a bitch.

CF-191G50DE is what i got from the seller.

I know I have been happy with the performance of my 19 Mk5. For fun I loaded Skyrim on it just to see if it would handle it. (I have tried Skyrim on a 19 Mk3, 74 Mk4 Just to see if it would play, I would but was very choppy and just about unplayable during a big battle) On the Mk5 I have about 4 hours of gaming on it and it plays smooth with no problems. And that is with out a SSD in it.

Probably not going to see much gaming. Nothing i play will run on it. Hell nothing i play runs on my SP4 either...

Writing though, probably gonna do a lot of that.
