I will need to replace the top of my CF-18 MK4 and was wondering if someone had the part # . I did find out that the MK1 and 3 top will not fit the 4 :( . Just want to check Heartland on the price.

CF-18 Mk-4 DFWV80C0497 LCD REAR CABINET ASSEMBLY $147.11
That’s the official price, I find heartland is 10 to 15% cheaper

Is it cracked, or will a decal or a Silver trooper type paint job work?

Well $147.11 for a piece of plastic I guess Silver trooper type paint will have to work. If I had my camera I would show you a picture of it.......the guy used a putty knife to remove a company sticker 2" x 4" area . I took the rest off with a hair dryer. So are they a special type of paint you would use..."Brand Name "

Blair, I sense your irritation but don't have any good advice. Can't help wondering though, what that fella was thinking while scraping off the stickers!

I guess he left his brain home that day  to bad because who ever had this before took very good care of it. I guess I will have to give it a paint job. Going out today to see what I can find.

Blair,

I would highly recommend the "hammered" finish that comes in both silver and black (although it really appears dark gray). They both hold true to the "rugged" theme, and the silver is very close to the original, just a different type of finish. Two tone using both colors comes out looking great!

If you need to paint the case, try using wrinkle finish, rubberized or just plian matte/flat black. If you have the 18 apart anyway, taping and painting is not that much more trouble. If you want any pics, take a look at the ones of the units I painted to get an idea. I took my down to the bare chassis and case, that is really what makes the difference.

How was that? I'm sure ST....can do it as it was proven so many times.

Thanks guys for the info.....just need the top done because the rest is spotless , not even the base has a mark on it......looks new until you look at the top left hand side.
What's the brand name of the paint you guys use. I would like to stick to the "Toughbook Grey" or close to it or if someone can give me a price on what they would charge to paint it let me know.

KRYLON FUSION HAMMERED SPRAY PAINT. If you want standard silver, you will need to take the Toughbook and try to match with a brand.
