SOLVED - Need help with printer-LMDE2
Posted: Tue Mar 08, 2016 9:43 am
I have installed LMDE2 onto a180GB Intel ssd in my 52GUN. I have a Canon Pixma iP90v printer that I am trying to get working. I tried to set it up with bluetooth but as soon as the laptop and printer paired up, they disconnected. After many attempts I removed the bluetooth module from the printer and plugged in the USB. I was able to get the printer setup with the USB connection but will not print. The test page gives a thin line across the top of the sheet of paper and nothing else, other than it wants to do that until it runs out of paper. Trying to print a text file has the document stuck at "processing" in the Document Print Status window. it has been like that for 15 minutes or more.
There is nothing wrong with the printer. I used it to print out a Customs form yesterday using an ssd with W7 and the bluetooth connection. I would prefer to get it working with the BT connection in LMDE2 but will settle for it using USB, as long as it works.
Any insight from the Debian users would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
EDIT:
Doh!! Had the USB cable unplugged. Plugged in the cable and tried the text file again. This time the printer shot out each piece of paper in the machine without printing anything on them.
EDIT 2:Printing to the printer through the bluetooth connection works. I brought up the bluetooth applet that is in the system tray (?windows terminology) and had it look for the printer again. Again it found the printer, paired with it then disconnected. I clicked on the line that said the printer was disconnected and that brought up the status window and for the hell of it I clicked on the 'Send File...' button. I was able to browse for a file, selected the test text file I printed earlier through the USB and the file printed. Go figure. I almost think that a Microsoft programmer is clandestinely working as a Linux programmer. Anyways, I can now print using the Bluetooth connection, even though it shows that the printer is not connected through the bluetooth module. FYI. END EDIT
