Well Shawn, the majority of todays linux is point and click. It's just that a few of us die hards still use command prompt. As for a "premium" version the 2 I always reccomend are LXLE for "older" systems and Mint for everything else. I'm partial to the cinn flavor of mint. I actually have an I-mac that runs strictly LXLE on it. Found everything right from start. Even the blue tooth drivers for keyboard. Grab either a dvd or an old 4 gb flash drive and make a live boot for one and try the os out. Can't lose for trying.

Jeff and I are making progress with OSX on a CF52GUN.
I used 10.7.3 .
I swapped in an Atheros AR5B93 wifi and OSX sees it.
I could not get to fully connect.
There is configuration that needs to be done. So I sent a HDD and wifi card to Jeff for stage 2 of the process.

Try cycling the wireless on and off.
The first time was by accident...second boot on purpose.

The rest of these settings are strange (different) so I'M NOT SURE WHAT I DID. :D My usual methodology.

No sound as of yet...end edit

I picked up a $20 Macbook to learn more about OSX. :read:
I had problems because OSX 10.6.3 is 32 and 64 bit rolled into one. Odd to say the least. The Core2Duo in the Macbook was having troubles stuttering and hanging.
I decided to try Win7 32bit on it. Installed easily using Apples own driverpack//utility for Windows called Bootcamp.
I was searching the web and stumbled on a theme/skin to make windows look like OSX. So I installed it on Win7 on the Macbook.
Now the Macbook is fully functional and the OS looks like it is supposed to look. :boing:

To be fair, I did get a copy of OSX 10.5 which is full 32bit. I installed it on another drive and the Macbook runs perfectly on it. But what is the fun in that? 8)

Win7 with Mac OS transformation pack on a Macbook. :boing:

Do you have your 52 running OSX? How about sound?

I do not have OSX on a 52 at the moment. I hit the pause button as I was waiting for YOU to fix the bugs. :swords:
Pretty sure I had sound at one point.
Zorin on the 31. Groovy.

Maybe I will reload OSX on the 52 later tonight.

Just burnt you a DL-DVD.
Antix 16.1 I think
Android Linux.. just for fun
Mint 18 point something

OSX up on the 52GUN again. I had sent the first drive westward.
I had to install via DVD. I could not get a usb stick to boot to the installer.
Wifi is working. Jeff's trick to cycle the wireless switch a few times worked. Typed this on my CF52 Hackintosh.
Very cool.
No sound though. Touchpad works.
Scrolling on usb wireless mouse was backwards. Minor setting change cured the scrolling issue.

Had to set cpus=1 at initial boot to get installation to complete.
During options stage of install, I choose to force 32 bit install.

That's it for now.

Atheros wireless. Same card I sent you.

Could you do a Linux search on a 52GUN and find the exact model of the sound card and the IDE chip.
I think the sound chip is a Analog Devices SoundMAX AD1883 Integrated Digital High Definition Audio

Search for kexts for those.
