The inverter on that LCD is integrated as you will notice. You can also check its surface mount fuse for the inverter.

Sorry, man! I'm still in PI but I will be in BC soon.

Exactly the same as the one I had, what a SOB to get apart until I got a small knife in between the layers.

I spent a few minutes on this as dinner was cooking.
I rang out the wires in the video cable that are for the backlighting..They checked out ok, at least the ones for the backlight..
Could not see any fuses on the inverter / touchscreen PCB.
The fuse beside the video connector on the motherboard checked ok also.

I want to attempt to light the LED strip with a battery ...

Well here is my idea..
It does have a picture on the screen...Just zero backlight.
I agree with Teo that the original wire can not handle the current.
If I just replace the cable or whatever failed, the problem will eventually return.
The Touchscreen and non touchscreen seem to have different cables and lcd panels.
I don't really care about touchscreen. Using a non touch screen or disabling the touchscreen will remove that current draw on the tiny video circuit that fails.

Sounds like a plan, I just cut the panels apart and replaced the inner one shown in the photo as it was broken. I tried to put it together minus touch panel but unlike the 52 there is nothing to hold it in as its glued to the bezel.

At the time I didn't have any tape thin and strong enough to do that.

I do have 12v to power the backlight at the panel..
I do not have 3v at the backlight enable pin..
I think the voltage is low on the PWM pin also.
