Disabled Download

My wife's CF-52 has suddenly stopped allowing downloads. I go into the security settings and select Prompt for download and click OK... It works fine for a few minutes to a few days... Then it reverts to disable download all by itself. :wtf:

Anyone know why?

I kind of thought that too... But she never goes anywhere except AOL and a few links from there. I have had this issue with a few customers too. I was thinking freaky MS updates...

I can redo her laptop in a few hours. I may just go ahead and try that. But I would like to find out the issue.

Is this in IE or in all browsers?

Sorry guys... IE10... I know some of you hate it but I like it as it lets me see everything and I have just grown used to it over the years... Until now. I might need to load Firefox. I can't stand Chrome.

Google results..

https://www.google.com/search?q=interne ... 80&bih=598

found this

I have just tried IE10 & IE11, they both works fine immediately just after installation, I can download anything from any website.

But after windows updates, they both block everthing. For example, I goto 7-Zip download page, press download and nothing happens after windows update.

After updates, IE10 & IE11 won't allow any activeX installation, and no pop-up/option box existed.

I now have rolled back to IE9 because my online banking web allow IE only, otherwise I would choose Chrome.

Is there anything to do with JAVA ? I know many client has encountered weired problems after recent update.

After a month experience - the best solution is to downgrade to Internet explorer 9. Both - 10 and 11 cannot download at all...

Thanks Shawn! I missed that one... I used different search terms.

There is another round of MS updates I will download for her today. It's just weird that I can make the change to allow it... And then it reverts. I have never seen that before.

I was with a customer the other day that had the same issue. His was in both IE11 and Firefox. So I think this is a W7 update issue. hopefully the next round of downloads will fix it.

BUT... MY laptop is fine and so is my desktop and 20 other laptops I have around here! LOL

If you don't want to do a full install you can try out a portable version. I have used one at work for years for when the wireless goes down I can still do my email checks when I get off work and take everything with me when I leave on my USB stick.

Here are the options for you on a portable browser.

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/g ... e_portable

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/firefox_portable

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/opera_portable

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/s ... y_portable

http://kmeleon.sourceforge.net/wiki/KMPortable

http://www.palemoon.org/palemoon-portable.shtml (firefox optimized for windows)

Also besides palemoon there are more more versions for firefox including x64 versions.

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/f ... table/test

The above link further down on the page has links for nightly version (my oldest boy swears by it) and the Aurora build versions.

If you really want to old school it.

http://portableapps.com/apps/internet/lynx-portable

Text only web browser. TBT is set up well enough you can navigate the whole site with it, forget facebook though. LOL.
