Down in New Orleans going though advanced firefighting once again. Brought along one of my Mk7's to put Windows 7 on and test out the SSD. Well brought the wrong one, didn't have enough ram for 1gb or more, and didn't bring the GPS I was going to install. Oh well, here is what I have found in my tests so far with what I have. I am using a IDE to 1.8" SATA adapter and a 1.8" 64 GB SDD that was originally out of a Lenovo. It only has 512 MB of ram right now, lol.

Right now on the windows 7 index score I am looking at.
CPU 1.9
RAM 2.9
GPU 1.0
GPU 1.0
DISK 4.9

Crystal disk Mark

SEQ: 30.53 READ / 30.03 WRITE
512K: 30.25 READ / 3.304 WRITE
4K: 11.78 READ / 4.840 WRITE
4K QD32: 12.94 READ / 0.432 WRITE

I haven't done any tweaks on it right now, still working on it.

I love the CF-M34 especially the 1 GHz Mk7. Have one with 1.25? GB ram, 32 GB Transcend SDD and rubber keyboard. Very interested in Win7 upgrade especially if the touchscreen can work.

I just finished my driver loads, Everything is working on mine, including video. Touch is spot on after I calibrated it. I plan on another unit digging out my 4gb CF to IDE adapter to bench mark it to see what I am getting out of it. Going to re-run everything here shortly. I have a samsung SSD that came from a Lenovo from the factory, it has no trim hardware, haven't done the tweaks yet.

I have two other of these units. I loaded windows 7 on a hard drive on one, putting my mini 7 on the 4gb drive so the compare can be with the same OS.

As far as seat of the pants speed right now programs are loading faster than the 74 Mk1 with 1gb of ram (didn't bring enough ram with me).

Any tests you want run just let me know.

It's running a slower now that I have MSE installed and ran a first time virus scan. I think it's just the ram as right now it's using 12% CPU, 72% Ram, also may be updating in the background. Still have some tweaks to do on the OS and SSD. Going to disable some services to see if that helps. Only has 35 processes running right now.

CPU 1.9
RAM 2.9
GPU 1.0
GPU 1.0
DISK 4.9

But it needs to be refreshed, won't refresh. Time for a few mods.........................

I love ya Paul.....or I will when you send me mini 7. rofl

Ubuntu 14.04 (not released yet) will have built in TRIM. FYI

I'm using trim on my ssd's in Linux already but it (14.04LTS)sounded interesting. Mainly because I can use some of the code etc. in Mint 16. Time flies. LTS seems like a week and a half. (Long Term Support for those that can't google) :D

BTW and On topic I have three or four M34. One is a parts beastie.

I'm running a MK1 CF-29 w/ssd. Suwheet. Using Intel w/techtuff adapter kit.

Ken, What are you using for batteries? My wwan unit (M34 with WWAN) has a lot better keyboard then any CF-19 I ever touched. The keys are arranged different for the Rubber BLKB in the M34.

Ador at fire fighting class sounds like me when it's snowing. Head down and doing the "I wonder what would happen if????"

Keep up the good work and thank you for the posts.

I will have to get another cheap 1.8 SSD and another adapter. Want to also test out the speed in CF-27,28 just for the hell of it. Once I do the speed testing on the Mk7 on the different drives I do plan to do some Linux testing on it.

I have been meaning to hit you up anyway Jeff. I am doing some more clearing out. Got three gobook 3's with gps that are on the hit list.

Paul,
Put me on the list for a tweaked mini-7 :headbang:

Jeff,
I have a few original 34 batteries that still hold a charge, and working on a re-cell project. These are easy to re-cell because they don't have the chip inside that shuts everything down at end-of-life. I have some extra dead batteries if you or Paul want to try re-celling (not re-selling lol).

Right now that mini 7 is a 699mb iso so it will fit on a CD, and will install on as small as a 4gb hd/ssd, but I think too much is cut out and I haven't tried patching it yet to get touch to working with it, other than that it works well, and screams in speed. I think Shawn has tried it out if I remember right. Also it won't load on anything older than a Pentium M. (From the 28 days with the CF-U1 thread) (14.8 GB of hard drive space total with 11.4 GB free.) Give you a idea of how small it is once installed.

I still have 4 batteries you sent me before to re-cell, just haven't had time for them, but there time is coming soon.
