ubuntu 13 and cf19 and sierra mc8780 gps/3g card

#1 Post by drspastic »

hi i got a cf 19 core duo and started upgrading!
i have 4 gig ram installed and mostly available, 1tB hybrid drive and sierra mc8780 gps/3g card, and now trying to cram in a rtl/rt820 based dvb-t card that will give me a radio receiver covering 24mhz to 1800mhz for gnuradio utilities.

im triple booting a ubuntu 13 on its own partition and puppy co-existing with xp.

xp finally gets 3g on uk tmobile, but only an older version of ubuntu sees it. puppy doesnt.
same with the touchpad, although touchscreen works ok.

im hoping to be able to ditch xp as soon as ubuntu 13 or xubuntu sees all devices.

i wonder if anyone else has the sierra card installed correct?
i also wonder if anyone has tried to do a puppy remaster for toughbook.

the purpose is to use the cf19 as navigation, cis radar, vhf monitoring, and weather fax/sat fax on a boat. im routing the ext ant from the sierra card to an external sma connector for a gps antenna as there is no room for the ceramic patch i bought for it.

any ideas or suggestions? do you think i will need to recompile ubuntu to see the sierra card?

What are the results of:

$dmesg | grep Sierra
$dmesg | grep Intel
($dmesg | grep input) # or( $lsinput) #two different lines. Dmesg quits reading at the #.
$lsusb
I saw one the other day for a Gobi install. IOW everything working.

Last night I used OpenCPN. Boat related and the author is bilingual. Linux and the other language. :)
More on the card later. If it's anything like Gobi you will have 5? entries.
