CF-52GCMBEAM Sound/NO sound

Pulling out my hair trying to get the sound to work on this baby. Original build from configurator: CF-52GCMBEAM Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 2.26GHz, 15.4" WXGA, 160GB, 1GB, WinXP, Intel WiFi a/b/g/n, Multi-drive, Bluetooth
My question is "how to trouble shoot the sound before shooting from the hip and putting in another card." This baby came without an operating system, so I put Linux on it which works very well, but NO sound. Tried several distros and still NO luck.
Any thoughts greatly appreciated. PS, I do not know the history of this baby as to whether it had working sound before I purchased it. :salute:

My hair is all gone, just kidding. After many attempts I came across a "no sound" post with a CF-19. Downloaded the Hot Key Appendix driver from the panasonic site, ran it, re-ran it, and then..."twang..." sound came out of those speakers....I did NOT have to delve into removing speakers and sound card...Thanks Jeff...aka sadlmkr for pointing me in the correct direction (right)....all is well in my world...
here's the linkage that helped mucho bueno:
