Use Mint 13. Install it in a compatible hard drive in any machine. CF-29 for instance. Switch it to the CF-28 caddy and let me know.

I don't have a 29. only a couple 30s and the 28. If someone had a basic clonezilla image, I could PXE boot and dump it that way.

No problem...how many do you want? I have some neat CF-29MK1 working TS WWAN OEM GPS. (Verizon).....kidding kind of.
Basic subtle point is if you download it on a ata? drive CF-28 will probably run it. Think about a USB to IDE/ATA drive.
Example: CF-29 MK2 will not take Mint 15 by itself. Download install on a MK5 and drop the caddy in a MK2 and bob's yer uncle.
We will get you fixed up I think.
Ummm what's PXE boot...More case in point...how to do it. I see it all the time and ignore it.

A short treatise would be great. Entitled PXE...How to Do It for Old f..rts.

Mint 13 has come a long way. If you need help the best operator I have dealt with is Klonsdale on NBR. Amongst others but I found his post.

PXE boot is an old (and current) method of booting a diskless machine over the network. Used to be used for diskless workstations, but is great for installations too.
The implementation on the CF-28 is a bit old, which causes some issues for me with DHCP (my PXE server is at a different IP address) and modern PXE clients have no problem with it, but the 28 does.

That's a great idea! The OP has not answered back, but sure would like to know how they made out with Linux on their CF-28.

Sadlmkr, I'm going to try this for just the heck of it. I've been working on three CF-28's and each one is very finicky as to which operating system loads on it. For instance, on one PIII600 I could only get Navigatrix to load, on a similar machine only Mint 9, and on the third machine PIII1000 I can only get Mint 9 to load, any and all others tried (Lubuntu, Ubuntu, Zorin, Mint 13, Navigatrex) just do NOT load.
Therefore, I'm going to load Mint 13 onto a CF-29 and then put the hdd into the CF-28 and see what happens....
