I have been doing other stuff but now got a little extra time for two projects I talked about before.
1: windows 2000 as a modern os
2: windows 7 on Mk7
I am installing 7 right now on one of the Mk7 units I have, second, Got firefox 10 up and running on a mk3 with 256 of ram. Going to dust off my older ram, maybe even pull a 512 stick from one of the 28's for testing to see if this unit can take it. Also downloading the unoffical service pack 5 for windows 2000 and looking for other compatable software, and testing modern portable apps. Even going to see if I can get MSE to work on it even if I have to manually put it on there part by part.

Re: Time to blow off the dust
Mine is a original windows 2000 Panasonic install sp2. Working on updating what I can to sp4, then the unofficial sp5. Their seems to be a kernel hack out to make it run more modern 32 bit applications. Found a site called "old apps" that has a lot of the older programs vlc, etc that I use and I now have the right copies of that for this OS. Copying files from flash drive to the desktop, usb 1 takes it's sweet time, lol.

Re: Time to blow off the dust
What's funny about this unit is I got it CHEAP off ebay. Had no box but it looks like it was brand new old stock. No scratches, internet explorer tries to go to some web site (http://unicomgov.com/), battery still gets close to 4 hrs on it, yellow tab factory stock, CF-M34NEFBPM. When I first turned it on it said starting windows 2000 for the first time. I haven't looked up the install date to see if it was reloaded or has just been setting for that long. I am not sure what looks newer my 19 mk3 or this one. (Sp4 installed, working on other updates, had put firefox 10 on it a while back, seen I could update up to 12 so I did that. Also who needs a copy of the original manual that came with the Mk3 toughbooks in pdf? lol.

Re: Time to blow off the dust
I'd remember installing Win 7 on my CF-m34 before and it works all fine. I just used compatibility mode on installing the drivers though.

Intel AC'97 Audio Controller Driver 6.0.6001.18000 for Windows 7/Windows 8
Sound doesn't work out of the box, used that driver and it worked fine after manual install though device manager. No reboot. Manually installed driver though device manager for mouse/touch, worked after reboot. Hot key isn't wanting to work, and still got a video driver minor problems. Got some stuff to try. Got the 28 laying out to pull out that ram and swap it to see how it likes a 512 stick that I know works in a toughbook.
Just playing with it some.

Re: Time to blow off the dust
Swapped what ram I had. Two different sticks of 512MB of PC133 pulled from two of my Mk2/3 CF-28's. The first one wouldn't even boot the pc, the second one a transcend chip would boot the machine but the bios would only show 256MB. Booting the system into windows 2000 and running Speccy it only shows a 256mb stick installed.
