CF30 backlight problem

Please forgive me if this has already been covered, I have been searching for a while now and I have not found what I was looking for. My CF30 has an issue with the backlight. It works, but it will only light up very dimly most of the time. Every once and I while I turn on the computer and it is super bright though. I have never seen it flicker or get darker, it only seems to change brightness when I turn off the computer or put it on standby, which leads me to think it is a software problem and not a short or a broken backlight. When the backlight seems to be working correctly, the brightness keys work, but when it is dim, they do nothing. Does anyone know how to go about fixing this?

Thanks,
-Svdharma

Welcome to Toughbook Talk

Your keyboard should have 4 settings, do all 4 work... press and hold Fn and press F12 for each setting. Let me know what happens

You mean that "F1" or "F2" combined with "Fn", right? Right now I think the backlight is working normally. When I press "Fn" combined with "F1" the brightness goes down, combined with "F2" the brightness goes up. It goes through around 20 levels of brightness. "F12" combined with "Fn" does nothing.

When the back light stops working properly, it will be stuck at a level of brightness close to the lowest level available normally.

So my computer is too hot and that is why the screen will not brighten? That sounds like a much bigger problem than I anticipated.

Well, I just stuck my computer in the freezer for five minutes, took it out, restarted it, and what do you know? Full brightness.
