CF-30 Mk2 GPS

#1 Post by ADOR »

I started messing with my "new" Mk2 today. I got it to replace my Mk1. It already had a copy of Windows 7 installed on it and Panasonic drivers installed. Just a Windows 7 Pro 32 bit install with drivers installed. Even Had the WWAN driver and software installed.

Model Number:CF-30FCS80AM
Status:DISCONTINUED
MSRP:$5,549
Description: WinXP (Vista COA), Intel Core 2 Duo L7500 1.60GHz (Centrino), 13.3" XGA Touch, 80GB, 1GB, Intel 802.11a/b/g, TPM1.2, Bluetooth, Emissive Backlit Keyboard, Dual Pass (Upper:WWAN/Lower:GPS), GPS,Verizon EVDO Rev A, No Drive

About the only real change on it from factory is Windows 7 install and upgrade to 3GB ram. I went to test stuff out on it to see what I had to work with before swapping out the hard drive and dropping in a 120GB SSD and doing some more tweaks to it. I am not seeing the GPS in BIOS and not getting any signal feed, nothing in device manager. In bios I have reset factory defaults, then tried again with no luck. Going under the advanced tab and then to the serial and parallel port settings area i see. serial port A (auto), serial port B (auto), Parallel (auto), mode( bi-directional). In my GPS software I tried com 1-7 on 4800 baud (9600 also) and it didn't pick up a signal. In device manager It shows on the com ports Com 1 and 2 as communications ports, printer port LPT1 and Port4,5,6 as the WWAN Sierra wireless MC5725. Does it look like it's time to open it up and check connections? or is there still a trick or two more I can try out? Anyone heard of the factory unit going out? I have just pulled the bottom off and looked around. Is the GPS on the sled? Like it is on the CF-29?

I have another unit with GPS and it shows up under the second area of the advanced tab like it should. (Just got to see what the flickering screen problem with that unit is)

Well out of the 4 Mk2 units I picked up three have factory GPS two of them aren't showing the GPS. Looks like it's time to open up the case and dig deeper into the problem.
