It's pretty complete as is. Firefox, a office program, the navigation programs plus whatever you want to add from 47000+ applications.
Now I need the fixes or a wireless head-set similar to Logitech 800. 800 does not play Linux well. Mutes the volume forever for one. Working on it.
Meanwhile I am finishing install on a MK2 (30) for my wife using W7. Skype, Gobi 2000 and etc.for a road trip.
To be clear I have not tried the headset with Navigatrix. Something to do. :D

I'm in my car with the MK-3 CF-30, running Navigatrex 0.5, added Foxtrot GPS...if you right click on the map, you can download maps to hard drive. This is a shot of the Sats and Map detail zoomed out somewhat:

Hey Cleve,

How about a composite of the screen with all the menus open? Will partially answer Ador's question.

I just finished a mini road trip and ran tracking while driving down the hill to pick up a CF-28 with docking station....Hmmmmm, a "screenshot" composite of the menus? You'll have to show me how to do that.
Paul, this Linux is based on Lubuntu, and the Menu is in the bottom left corner...It's got Accessories,
Games, Graphics, Internet, Navigation,Office, Sound & Video, SSB Radio, & Preferences for primary choices. You can customize the bottom panel by right clicking inside it, and then add/remove what shows up for your preference/favorite choices along the bottom. Like Jeff said, there are over 40,000 free programs in the Software Center. I recommend updating after the install completes but it's not necessary unless you want to add Chromium & FoxtrotGPS. It comes preloaded with Office (complete Linux Version), email client, planet view, relay chat, Skype, Tor Browser, Torrent Browser, Web Browser etc, all under "Internet" menu. You can download files, and burn them to usb/cd/dvd very easily. No antivirus software needed. I can send you a copy if you have trouble downloading and burning an iso onto usb/cd/dvd. Cheers :pat:

Thanks Cleve.

Another CF-28?rofl

I was banking, hacking and packing.

Cleve has the download figured out.

If a person does nothing else with this program it would be to open synaptic package manager and make sure you have all the gps files downloaded/installed for your system (Linux type). My personal observation because these guys have gps dialed!

Who's the script writer for Linux? Anybody?

We want to:

killall gpsd
launch OPENCPN (or Foxtrot)
Do it from a GUI and/or a hotkey....How about [Fn][F8] When driving I prefer the GUI. (launch from touchscreen)
Launch without requiring a password.

Cleve, What are the steps that you take to run Foxtrot? Maybe with Navigatrix killall is not necessary. Though a killall gpsd gui would be cool too.

Back to work.

Thanks Cleve.

J'd

Thanks guys, when I started the thread I see something useful for the more hard core linux guys. I just didn't have time to look it out fully. I will be revisiting this soon.

You started it mate....up to you to finish. Heh! Cleve and I will use you for the guinea pig. :D Please. :notworthy:

Master Cleve and I have spent a beau coup bit of time land-line and PM re: this and other projects. IOW for the lurkers ...you do not figure this out from a few page of text seen in the very best Toughbook Forum.
IIWII. (it is what it is)

For contributors: we do not have the words, simply, just or easy in our written vocabulary. So please refrain from the use of such. The truth is...there is a learning curve....don't talk down to anyone. I know most writers don't realize they are doing it.

That being said....BRING IT ON. Please. Come on folks anything and everything specific to the job at hand is welcome. IOW we need help. Cleve has a job involving a heart lung machine and etc.....I have livestock, (cattle, sheep and horses) and a 24/7 job because of that. Not complaining.....just explaining. (part time poet..lol)

We need: SOMEONE THAT HAS KNOWLEDGE OF SCRIPTS AND HOW TO WRITE THEM IN TERMINAL OR TEXT EDITOR (gedit?)

Thanks for listening. I think dinner is burning. PLEASE...newbies welcome...new stuff happening here.

TTYL

Jeff

Jeff, I have the Foxtrot Quick start icon in the bottom panel/bar next to one for Terminal & Chromium. I just click on the icon after running the script you devised and voila, she finds my position and loads the opensource maps. I like the idea of a script to do all three, and eliminate the password that is prompted. The Linux go-to guy has not called me back, guess we'll have to dig deeper and write our own Lefty!
