hi there nuts.. it is always dangerous for the wallet and timetables to come to forums like this..

bought myself a MK5 CF-29, model no. CF29NTQGZBM, 4790 acc. hrs on it.
have not received it yet, updating parcel tracker 5 times a day..:D

it got a bad battery, no cd, just floppy. no screen wear, and looks nice exterior.

are the mk5 bootable from the usb? the hdd were wiped before sale.

regards from norway.

I personally have sold HUNDREDS of CF-29's and I've NEVER had to do this, although there are a LOT of people on here that would tell you elsewise... My motto: If it ain't broke, don't fix it

BTW, there SHOULDN'T be any dust inside the unit considering that they are supposed to be SEALED from dust/water/grime, etc...

I too have never had to replace them. I have listened to others say that the base is getting warm...yes it does because that is how a toughbook gets the heat out . If you are having lots of problems like crashes, lockups or what ever well maybe replace them. Now if you are going to have it open anyways to do a wifi upgrade and you have new pads well sure do it

ah, ok thanks for elaborating that! it is pads then, not thermal paste? makes sense really, paste can get dry and cracks up after some years.

what wifi card do i have in mine? i couldnt find that out by googling. is it a standard card that i could replace like any other laptop?..

also, reading on toughwiki, the mk4/5 uses pci-e cards for wwan? how much hassle/costly is it to add this to my machine? do i need alot of parts, or are the antennas and such ready?

will trow in a gps unit, but think i have to do it the budget way, and use some of the ways shown on NBR. anyone got a good tip what path i should take that dont cost more than the TB itself?

I'm pretty sure that the wwan cards available for the toughbook doesn't work in Norway. I don't think you lot have cdma networks and all the wwan cards i've seen have been cdma ones. i'm sure european retailers have wwan for europe, but the US cards wont work.
