Ken, I am talking with a seller now about keys, told him I need 3-4 of them. He will let me know monday about a price . I will post what I find out.

When the other caddy's come in I am going to get the other one with gps running and test it out. After the battery calibration the battery is working again, still has around 48% of original storage left.
Last time it showed it was calibrated was in 2007. If the other ones gps works I may pick up another one, then take this one apart to see what is wrong with this one.

I am still having problems with my USB. I can hook up my external HDD and it ok for 3-10 minutes then its gone but will find it right away and load it but also sometimes I have to unplug the external and plug it back in for it to see it . If I can keep it loaded long enought I will run Acronis true image onto my drive I am going to use on the other 260+ I bought yesterday so when I get it all I will have to do is drop the drive in and its done...I hope :rolleyes:

Try this for the USB problem. These steps are for WinXP. Vista and Win7 are similiar.

1. Open Control Panel
2. Open System
3. Click Hardware tab
4. Click on Device Manager
5. Scroll down to Universal Serial Bus controllers
6. Scroll down to your USB root hubs. My system here shows 8 of them.
7. For each one, right click to get to Properties
8. Click on the Power Management Tab.
9. For each one make sure the box for "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is UNCHECKED.
10. At this point close everything and reboot.

Thanks Rusty, that was one of the problems. It seams to run a external HDD or cd-rom you need 2 lines not just one to run them. Since the 260+ only has 1 USB I have a USB pcmcia card with one USB slot and it runs great. I just ran Acronis True Image and made a image for the other one I have coming in this week with no problems at all. Thanks for the help.

Well it looks like I do have a bad gps on one of the two units I got. I took it with me to Monroe to drop my youngest boys back off with there mom. It always had just the one satellite on the screen, even if I swapped programs (winfast navigator, gpsfox or visualgps) it always showed just the one, on stop or go. Pulling the battery and caddy I had set up into the other unit and I have two satellites locked right now and about 4 others it picking up just sitting in the living room. Looks like I will be lifting the hood of the unit in a few days to see just if something is loose.



EDIT: Had to go test it more, lol, Went outside for a few minutes and Locked 7 satellites and had two more.

Well that bites, hope you can figure out whats wrong with the other GPS. One thing about these and the price we paid even if we get a bad one we could get our money back out of it by selling just a few parts.
I wonder if the GPS from the gobook 2 will work in the CF-18. We know it will fit because it's a PCMCIA but will the 18 know what it is and what about the drivers. Ken is this what you are thinking about :D

Yeah, thought I'd bid on the 2 extra GPS units. I read that these GPS units are pretty good SiRF-III types. My first 260+ was pretty poor shape physically with a dead battery that would not revive (tried charging, refresh, cursing, ...) So I complained a bit to the seller, but they were not very accommodating, so I just bought another outright. Hope it is in better shape with a good battery. Have not loaded up a hard drive yet so don't know if the GPS is working.

Blair did you strike a deal on some dock keys?

The guy said he was going to get back to me today but never did , if I don't hear by tomorrow I will email him again. This is the guy http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... AQ:US:1123 this guy is selling the 50-0134-005 and the one you have is a 50-0134-003 so not really sure if the keys will fit. I wonder if these keys can be cut/made at any hardware store because then all I would need is one and get the rest made myself...we would all be set :D

Ken, the seller that is selling the pcmcia GPS is getting them from the same seller that we got ours from. I just went to buy one of the $20.00 ones and they were sold out and noticed he went and bought 3 more of them so you know he will be listing at least 3 more.
