Some bios settings are battery dependent..Some are not.

With any change in hardware/drives , I'd pull power while shut-down, pull battery and hold power switch on to drain residual stupid from the mobo. Particularly important with WWAN cards or when switching dip switches. (WWAN advise from Rob I think)

Well, it's back up and running again. I'm throwing an OS at it in the meantime, and once I get it and drivers loaded, I'll see if I can't keep it reliably booting. When I get in the belly of the beast to prod at the battery tonight, I'll disconnect and reconnect things I can in the event that something has come adrift and is currently playing merry hell with reliability.
