Now that you brought it up....I just NOW got speaker working through ALSA WIKI information. MX-15 on CF-31J.
This is a dual-boot Linux ....this side the speaker is broken too. And alsa nowhere to be seen. I'll break that in a bit. Since I'm seeing cable issues in dmesg the hdd is going to be toast soon anyway.
Heh! This is fun.....pulse audio say good-bye.

Since we're on the subject, I just received a
Bluedio bluetooth headset and had to begrudgingly install Pulse to get it to work on my desktop system. It actually went better than expected. It also fixed my Skype audio which I didn't really care about since I only use it for text.

OK, to repair my login I had to uninstall and install again lightdm.
# For re-configuring
Re-installing
Code: Select all
$ sudo apt-get purge lightdm && sudo apt-get install lightdm
Or install gdm in place of lightdm...
Code: Select all
$ sudo apt-get purge lightdm && sudo apt-get install gdm
I did not do this, I had enouugh problems without learning a new application.
Still working on my sound issue.

Just as an update on the sound problem...
I went to Terminal and ran:
and got back:
Code: Select all
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 0: ALC269VB Analog [ALC269VB Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: PCH [HDA Intel PCH], device 7: HDMI 1 [HDMI 1]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
My hearing is near shot, from to many bangs

and Rock

, but, I think I can hear a very slight amount of sound when I try and play something!

Did you mute the sound in Windows?

I stuffed a W7 from another J that I will mail today to the far east.....speakers were fine.
Then two Linux drives, one fixed one still broken (sound)
Then a third Linux and sound was perfect. (Dated 2013)
The point is
1. As Shawn said if it's muted in W7 the mobo remembers.....and it will be muted in Linux. (or vice versa)
2. In the last two years something has changed....still looking for a blacklist entry. I suspect Ubuntu upgrades.

My Windows rocks, as did my previous version of Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, before the "upgrade." Still, I just checked, Windows 7 x64 still has sound! Shawn has been known to be correct, every blue moon...
I may try and duplicate your luck with ALSA!

LoL!
OK, it is official, there is "some" sound, but it is so low, you can barely hear it. So, that means that my sound card is detected, but that the driver is not correct for some reason, I think...
I also tried it with my Bluetooth headset, and there it sounds great! So, I am not sure of my next step at this moment, but I can see via my research that a LOT of people are having this problem!

OK, I do not see a lot of interest in Ubuntu 16.4 LTS, and that is cool, but as a final warning of how buggy this release is, all of my videos stored on my computer, or DVD's, now play upside down!
I still have no sound, and can not believe the hype I am hearing about, "best Ubuntu release, ever!"
I am going to head on over to some of the Ubuntu boards to see if I can sort this beast out, if you have interest, PM me.
Thanks!
