Just a quick update - Managed to find an original CDRW/DVD ROM drive on eBay for £12. Utter bargain and it slid in and worked right off the bat, perfectly. Brilliant stuff. thanks for the replies and assistance.
Now I need to source a replacement battery which appear to be as rare as rocking horse poo. Can't even find a pattern/aftermarket one to fit a CF-73, never mind an original. Although from what I see the prices for both are very expensive. I'll start a separate thread.
