Once I got my dell apart (1hour) and pulled the heat sink out the cpu just came out and when I put it back in it just dropped in....The 51 had a ZIF and was a piece of cake to do...15 minutes tops...maybe 9 screws.ToughNut wrote: Did you use a chip extractor to remove the Dell's T7200 processor or does the socket uses a ZIF latch?

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66MHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
Ok I got my Core 2 Duo T7200 cpu today and put it in my CF-51 MK3LL and it works great
.It does run faster for sure.....sweet . It only took about 15 minutes to do this, very easy mod. Just snap off the speaker cover, take the keyboard and flip it over on top of the palm rest, take the screws out of the metal shield with speakers in it (9 screws) and turn it sideways and the 4 screws on the heat sink and pop the cpu out. That's it .
I picked up my T7200 on fleabay for $50.00 which was a good price but if you are lucky they have had them for $35.00 but they go fast at that price.

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66MHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
Blair, so you'll be trying the T7500 next?

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66MHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
I tried the T7500 a couple of times on two different cf-51 core duos, one a cf-51 Q federal with T2500 CD 2.0ghz and the other with a T2300 CD 1.66ghz on a CF-51 RC4KFBM and got no results with either unit. The specs between one vs the other was the 945pm chipset and the other 945gm, the bios versions were a 3.00 and 3.50L12. the sockets were the same. I took the t7500 and put it in the gutway I have and am using it right now with a considerable improvement in speed. the swap was a lot simpler than I thought I would encounter on the gateway. It has the 965 chip though and a ZIP socket. Same ram as the toughbook ddr2 5300 200 pin it appears without having swapped them as well. I'm not sure which way to go yet as it seems this should work, maybe a bios upgrade, don't know much about that as of yet. the 2 MB I have seen wer same number CF-51 DFUP1493ZD on one and other looked identical, but didn't take apart to see if was same number. both came with 1.66 CD cpu. Any ideas here, I really think this will work, ........Driller
Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66MHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
just got the T7200 in and popped it in the cf-51 RC4KFBM and boots and shows in bios and ran it for a while, only have 2GB 4200 ram in it but came up quick. will play with it some more today to see how it does, watching temps with coretemp and seems to be mid 40's and up to mid and high 50's. a few times spiked mid 60's but didn't stay but a moment. will try some other tricks on this laptop but it's a blind squirrell here, maybe I'll find something maybe not, ....?not?..this confirms toughasnails efforts with his, sure wish I knew what the trick was to get the T7500 to work here, but using it now in my gutaway..........Driller

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
I really don't think the T7500 will work on the Core Duo 1.6 Mhz BUT am still hoping and yes I will still try . I checked Intel web site again and this is what I got
Core Duo 1.6 ......945PM chip set.....T2300....mine
Core Duo 2.0.......945GM chip set....T2500....driller/rusty
Core 2 Duo 2.0....945PM chip set.....T7200....works
Core 2 Duo 2.2....965GME chip set...T7500....no boot,driller / will boot,rusty
As you can see three different chip sets so how Rusty got his to work, good question. I guess we will have to wait untill he gets his stuff back from overseas to see.
To be continued.....I hope
I have been running the T7200 Core 2 Duo 2.0 for about a week now with no problems. I was on it for about 4 hours one night and run great and did not over heat. I have 4GB memory,W7 and 160GB 7200Rpm HD installed

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
The issue with the T7500 not working would be the 800 MHz FSB
I would guess that a T7600 and t7400 667 MHz FSB will work

So the mistery continues.....Thanks Alex
T2300 Core Duo 1.6 GHz ......667 FSB.....945PM chip set........mine
T2500 Core Duo 2.0 GHz.......667 FSB.....945GM chip set.......driller/rusty

T7600 Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz, 667 FSB.....945GM / 945PM chip set
So anyone got one to try in a CF-51 Core Duo

I only looked up the 7000 series, and found that the T7500 was a faster bus speed
I did not check the 2000 series

Re: CF-51 Intel Core Duo 1.66GHz to a Intel Core 2 Duo T7500
Thanks Alex ,I just checked T2400,T2600 and the T2700 , they all use the 667 FSB with 2M Cache.....945GM / 945PM chip set and all the T7000's are 4M Cache,800 FSB (T7200,7400 and 7600 667 FSB) . Guess I will have to do some shopping.tomcat57 wrote:I only looked up the 7000 series, and found that the T7500 was a faster bus speed
