Panasonic Toughbook newbie CF-30 Problems

New problem went to use it this morning and its not even recognising the modem had removed the complete modem sled to check the serial number and it now doesnt seem to recognise it at all any ideas?

Power pull reset and set bios to defaults. Do this any time you add or install a card.

On install since you pulled the battery guide the sled onto the pins with your fingers through the door. I have installed a difficult one with the laptop vertical or upside down. Use at least one screw even if you are testing. There should be zero +- gap in the palm rest end. If the gap doesn't want to go away check your alignment.

Other then that I can't think of a thing.

Got it! had tried puting it in about 10 times! done like you said pulled battery and guided it in upside down done a diagnostic check on the bios and after it re-booted it came on, ok matey thanks all the way from Scotland to California cheers.

I'll just add a few cents worth based on recent observations and what happens during Windows background update.

With a new installation of Windows on a Core 2 Duo or CoreDuo the svchost responsible for automatic updates will run one core at 100% as it figures out the myriad of cross referenced updates. Start task manager and "show processes from all users" and the top svchost will be running the cpu at 50% or higher and using a big chunk of memory. On a recent installation on Windows 7 on a CF-19 I observed this svchost and the Panasonic hotkey program consuming 80% to 100% total cpu (both cores) and the CF-19 was running very hot.

Check your task manager.

Thanks Dryster and you are so right... checked my task manager and it was running about 70%CPU usage and 1.5gb memory on idle with nothing running also installed speedfan just to check my temps and this indicated it was running very hot also checked out my other non toughbook laptop and it was sitting at 1% constantly so there was defo a problem and your right stopped the windows update and it immediately went to 1% from 70% then put it back on again and it shot up to 70%, so will see over the next few days if she is still burning my legs is fine when im outside but annoying when your inside. good call mate thanks a lot for your help also check out this link to get rid of any unwanted stuff slowing down your CPU obviously be careful and check before you stop anything.

Quick update much cooler on the legs and battery gone from 3 hours to nearly 5 hours amazing.
