This is great stuff....where's Glitch been lately? Me thinks he was taking some program classes awhile back....I'm just a hack that will try anything.....we'll see.

I talked to Glitch right before I went back to work. He had a lot of non-pc projects to do and I think school is back in for him.

This could solve the Mapping Problem of Linux in a big way! Of course, I presently have no GPS on my CF-31 and I sold the CF-30 yesterday.

Re: Garmin OS
I'm sure a Linux expert can make progress on this... I am limited at the moment...
I would like to have someone use the original Garmin code in whatever Ubuntu "base" is needed so we could boot right to a CF19 that thinks it's a Garmin Nuvi.
Plan B is to use an ARM emulator in Linux (pretty sure Garmins use a ARM cpu. Then we can run the original Garmin code in Linux..
Plan C is Garmin Mobile PC in Wine..

Re: Garmin OS
I looked at some of these archives and they are mostly a collection of common packages, header files and subsystems, most of which are opensource and can be downloaded from standard repositories. A lot of them have Garmin-specific patches.
I checked out one of the nüvi sets of files and the GUI component appears to be Gnome with Matchbox window manager. I'd have to setup a development system to compile it to see what's so "Garmin-ish" about it. It might not be necessary to "roll your own linux" with these files.

Re: Garmin OS
Kode,
It would be great if you could set it up. Like I said I really want a bootable system on my CF19 that works just like a Garmin handheld.
I posted the open source of the Garmin files, but I have no clue what to do with them. Nor the mental stability at the moment to learn. If I had a compiled install disk, I could try it on a CF19 or CF30/31. ...

Re: Garmin OS
These are bits and pieces of open source packages anyway. I think the important bits are proprietary and are left out.

Re: Garmin OS
I'm not sure it would be that useful. I wouldn't know how anyway. Give me some time to play around with these first.
