Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
1. The cheapest Cruzer Fit (SanDisk) were 16GB....USB Flash Drives.
these are sweet as all the doors in a 29 or 30 will shut on them. End of the bent and broken traditional sticks.....like my 8GB utility stick. Just under 6 GB full now. My pure Dos stick is bent.
I might pull the usb door off the 53 as it lives in the house. Maybe design a door with a bump out.
2. Of course I can format every time but was speculating about a multi flavor Linux stick....is why the menu question.
Yah, Cleve and I are crazy but we want to try everything and maybe there are some other nuts out there that want to try different O.S.'s.
So I will throw this out there and cook dinner.
Research later.
Thanks,
J'd

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
That is slick, took me a few minutes to make a 16gb stick with Mint 17.1 and Slacko Puppy on it,booted them on a CF-30mk1 and it is easy as can be.
You have to like it.Just add distos and when you boot it gives you a standard menu of distos to boot from.

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
I tried multi-boot. Need more testing...(experience/practice). It doesn't do what I had in mind...but it's early days.......learning curve stuff.
Cleve I had to add a missing link from package manager....searching.........................searching.........................................O.K. missing files were related to QEMU. Ummm I think QEMU itself was not on 17.1.
Syslinux scares me as I haven't found out what it does yet. It says be careful in the menu.
(MultiBootUSB menu)(version 7.2.0 btw.)

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
I used Multiboot, did you want to be able to switch from one to another without booting? Just so I understand.

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
No, I think what we're looking for is a way to boot up a usb drive and have a choice of "live" distributions (iso's) to choose from, i.e. Mint, Ubuntu, Zorin, CrunchBang, WattOS, etc.
I'll try the first link with Yumi, a new version just came out today.

Note this: "Important Note: YUMI was intended to be used to try to run various "LIVE Linux" Operating Systems from USB. Installing Linux from the YUMI created USB Drive to a Hard Drive is not officially supported. If the installer portion of any Live Linux distro does work, consider it a bonus."

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
Yes,that's how it works, you add as many as you want then pick from the list at boot. I put 2 on it and had my choice at boot just like a dual boot Linux/Windows.

Re: Multi-boot menu for Linux.... Is there a way?
Okay then...I found YUMI in the software center while using Zorin9 on the 52 GUN. I added it and then ran the program from my menu. It prompted me to insert a usb drive, which I did. Now I'm adding ISO's that were previously downloaded, many which I had previously burned cd's, dvd's, and usb sticks. I'll give it a go and fill a couple of 8 GB drives, and then report back. Thanks again for the links!
