It works pretty good all things considered. Fun to see these old dogs up and running again.

This distribution looks interesting!
Is this the version you installed? http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=08342
Does the installer do everything for you or did you have to configure your hard drive?

slacko-5.7-NO-pae.iso is what I have. That appears to be it,it is very nice as it walks you thru the entire installation step by step with very clear instructions. My next trick is to try it on my CF-L1XA.

Kerry,
Sadlmkr and I would like to thank you for this post you made. We took it a step further and investigated the newest version found here: http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=08678
I downloaded the iso and made a bootable cd with only 200 mb or so of data, and then followed the prompts and advice to make a bootable usb device. This takes Ador's advice to a new level, adding his portable apps advice elsewhere for people having browser problems. I'm on the 52 GUN right now with a bootable usb drive that allows me to save my settings and data. All using Puppy Linux and Ubuntu Tahr 14.04 repositories!
I'm sure there will be a new Linux post soon regarding all of this. Being able to use a portable usb drive and take it with you where ever you go and then to log in using someone's computer without installing it to the hard drive, but just using the internet connection is very appealing, especially to those that use mobile banking, etc. This is really COOL beans for all the folks here! :swords:

I use to carry a live windows cd (never swapped it to usb), a Live ophcrack USB with two DVD's that had the complete vista and XP tables with them and still carry my Linux loaded with "pen drive linux" it's a version on Mandriva 2007.1 When using the windows disk I kept all my extra portable software on the USB stick.

This year I finally wiped that drive and re-did it with Mint 15. I kept two folders on the root directory one named WINDOWS the Other Linux. The reason for that is if you have something you need on your desktop on the pen drive you can't access it unless you are booted to your desktop. But if it's in a folder on the Root of the drive you can get to it.

One of the projects I have planned when I get caught up is a live version of windows 7 and a version of Linux dual booted on a USB stick. Just need to decide the size of the stick and see what would be a good candidate for it in the current USB stick market. Then there is long process of picking out what portable apps to load up on it.

Lately on the portable side of things Firefox, Dyno 2003 and Drag 2003 have been about the only programs I have been running off of my usb stick.
