CF-H1 USB port

#1 Post by Rich »

So I have aquired a couple of CF-H1C models from a friend. I thought I would try to install a USB Port in the unit and not have to use a dock. I was thinking of installing a pcie card to USB adapter where the wwan card would be. After getting some direction from Rob and RDJack (thanks by the way), removed the wifi card instead. Plugged the adapter in and a USB dongle with 4 ports. I have mini wireless keyboard and USB drive with parted magic. Was able to get into bios to select boot, booted and wiped hdd. I also received my recovery DVD from Heartlands and installed Windows 7 pro. It's up and running now with USB wifi dongle and downloading 216 updates.
It's a pretty quick little unit for an atom 1.86ghz and only 2 gb ram. I'll post some pictures in a few days.

I have a pcie to dual USB adapter coming for the other unit, plan on having the USB dongle inside of that one.

Jeff, you actually gave me this idea. The 29 special with gps I got from you has that USB hidden above the battery. Thanks for the inspiration. :salute:

Ok, Here is the second unit. This mini PCIe to USB adapter has two USB ports. I removed the wifi card and installed adapter, routed the wires. I double side taped the wifi dongle in place, barely fits but I have had good luck with this model. The other USB port comes out opposite side, and it is double side taped in place on back. I might epoxy later if I like this location.
