GPS signal reception problem

#1 Post by Gueller »

Hello everybody

I have a Tough Book CF19 MK2 with Windows 7.

I have a Problem with my GPS Signal.

In Operation with Battery i don't have any Problems. Outdoor or in a Room i have perfect 3D GPS Signal.
But when I plug the laptop at the current for charging whether home or with the car charger, the GPS signal is practically out.
I only have bad to no reception.

Do you have an idea or help?

greetings from Switzerland
Michel

Hello

ok i will post a Photo tonight.

But i have the Original Home Charger from Panasonic and in the Car the LIND Charger 12-32V. My Car ist running on 24V.
With both Charger i have the same Problem.

If I connect the power plug to the laptop is the signal quite weak or gone. As soon as I remove plug from the power connection is in seconds the GPS reception is again good.

Greetings Michel

Thank you for the photos.

Many people use aftermarket chargers at the wrong voltage.
I just wanted to verify that you have the correct chargers first.
Those are both fine.

Next question.. What bios version? Post a photo of the main BIOS page if you can. I am wondering if you have a custom BIOS that shuts off the gps power. The antenna connection and switching is mechanical only, but the main gps power is controlled by the BIOS.

Panasonic has a program called gps viewer. It is listed under the drivers for later models. (CF 31 mk3) Install that and run it to check gps. Use com3. It will give us a visual of the data stream.

What are the exact conditions of the issue? Are sure the problem is not the location?
If I am standing outside running on battery, I get great gps reception. As soon as I come inside my home, I lose reception. My issue is not that I am plugged in to the AC adapter, it is the metal roof of my home (or car).

Here the Photo from Bios

The problem is wherever I am.
When running on battery, the GPS runs properly.
Whether in the house, in the garden or in the wide mountains.
As soon as I connect it to the power at the same place, the signal coincides.

With very good signal with battery I sometimes have a signal with power connection. But only weak. Of 8 saddles remain just 3-4 left or it breaks completely together to 80%

It is not a custom BIOS. That is good
Is this a built in gps or a usb one?

Try the gps viewer and report back.

Hopefully Teo will read this and have a better answer.

I want to know if the stream continues or stops when the gps quits working.
If the stream quits, you have a power problem.
If the stream continues, you have an antenna or module problem.

Personally, I never liked the Sony modules. I much prefer the Leadtek modules.
