Cf-19 Mk1 to Mk2

#1 Post by liteace »

Hi All, I have here a factory black CF-19 Mk1 thats in very good condition, I have just got a Mk2 thats a little raggy, I was going to change the innards, put all the Mk2 parts in the black Mk1 shell, so I have a nice factory black Mk2 but that is 2 much hassle so Im just going to swap the outer case, here the problem the Mk1 has:

Intel Core Duo U2400 1.06GHz

and the Mk2 has:

Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 1.06GHz

when I put the 500Gb hard drive with all my programs on from the Mk1 in the Mk2 windows starts and then I get the blue screen, But the Mk1 has got 4Gb of mem and the windows XP was loaded on the Mk1 after them mem upgrade and the Mk2 has only got 2Gb mem, would this be the blue screen problem or is the problem the difference in the processor

Thanks

Windows has a "anti piracy" thing built in to stop piracy. After you install windows XP it records the hardware you have. If it's a minor change no problem, if it's a major change, problem. Motherboards, CPU's are considered major. This information is currently stored in your registry. I don't know if you used a factory restore disk or a regular XP disk. Sometimes you can put the disk in and use the repair option. Another trick I have used in the past is to uninstall all chipset, cpu, network, video, etc drivers and put it into the new machine on reboot. There are also some guides on the net for this also. Try googling something like. "stop bluescreening after cpu upgrade" you may have to mod some files.

Guessing a fresh install on the Mk2 is out of the question?

Thanks for the info, a fresh install is a poss but I dont want to be installing 500Gb of data and programs, so there's a lot of other different parts in the Mk2 other that just the prosessor ?

Just a changed processor can make windows flag on boot up then blue screen. If it was another core duo it may not do it, but you are swapping cpu family from core duo to core 2 duo, I am sure there are other changes also but would have to look it up.

While I don't have a lot of experience with CF-19s I have several different MKs of CF-51s. One thing that has worked for me is using an XP Pro recovery DVD from one MK to restore to a hard drive and then move that hard drive into a different MK machine. Specifically a MK3LL to a MK3 where the MK3 has been upgraded from a 1.66 Core Duo to a 2.33 Core 2 Duo. When the restored drive starts for the first time and registers hardware it registers the processor in the MK3 not the MK3LL. I haven't had a major problem as yet. The video drivers are incorrect from the restore image and have to be uninstalled, the correct drivers downloaded and installed. The same is true with the wireless drivers since I've replaced the 3945 with a 6230. Since the wireless card has been changed the software wireless switch does not work. Other than that the MK3 works great with the MK3LL restore image. Gotta love the hard drive caddy and how easy it makes it to switch out hard drives! Anyway just a thought about a quicker easier way to get the MK2 up and running if you have a recovery disk and there haven't been a whole lot of changes MK1 to MK2 with the CF-19.

I dont have a recovery disk, Im going to try and delete all the drivers in the device manager, swap drives with the XP disk in a external dvd and work from there
