Server Backbone connections

#1 Post by ADOR »

Where would be the best place to look and price for putting up a server on a good connection kind of what you have here ROB on TBT. My oldest boy is wanting to go bigger on his minecraft server as he has gotten popular. We just don't have the bandwidth to run a large one online from our house.

How much bandwidth are they calling for?

I personally have Comcast business. I'm on the 22M/5M package with 1 static IP. I pay $121/month. It's pretty cheap for what you get.

For $221 a month you can get 50M/10M ----> That is really what you shuld be shooting for! Not so much the 50M down (although that is NICE), but the 10M up helps!

Depending on the bandwidth requirements, I might be able to help you out. I've been wanting to upgrade to the 50M/10M package but don't have enough subscribers to do it cost wise. I can probably work out a deal for HALF the cost of doing it yourself AND give you your own server that you can manage yourself! :)

I got numbers all worked out and can EASILY make this happen! :)

I will talk to my son when he gets home from school. I have "rented" a virtual server for him before to manage and had it two months before we got rid of it. I just wasn't cutting it. We had nothing to do with setting it up so I don't know what specs it had. That is when I went looking for a better home server and called and talked to you one time before. The current "server" is a used HP workstation with X3 2.3 triple core with 6gb of ram and it works fine for what we have right now, but I know it might need a little more when we add more players.

Is there any kind of bandwidth cap as in monthly limit? I am not sure how much it will eat up, have to figure it out and get back with you. Soon as I get some more info I will get back with you Rob.

Okay sure.

No, there is no cap with my ISP whatsoever.

You typically don't need anywhere NEAR that powerful of a computer to run the server end of things you know.

We'll see.

I know minecraft like to eat ram so that is why on that, but for 88 bucks shipped to my door I though the work station was a good deal.
