And here is a little something to put in your caddy when done:

http://www.gizmag.com/team-xtreem-s1-ss ... dium=email

Check out the read/write speeds....
One CF-52, four CF-18's, 4.5 CF-28's, one CF-29, five CF-M34's, two CF-37's, one CF-P2 and two CF-P1's. There are also two Getac A320T's, one Fieldpac and two IBM Transnotes. Not to mention the AMD 5600 CPU with three monitors and several HP PDA's. Whew! Must quit buying...no, must have MORE! Then there are the weapons...

Ineptocracy: A system of government where the least capable to lead are elected by the least capable of producing, and where the members of society least likely to sustain themselves or succeed, are rewarded with goods and services paid for by the confiscated wealth of a diminishing number of producers.

So has anybody else besides Bill done this. I spent about 3 hours and lost count how many times I took the caddy apart and no luck. I was trying to put it in my CF-29 MK3. I have a WD 160GB HD. I did remove the black jumper and I just checked the sata board to see if I damaged it and its ok .I just put my old HD back in to see if I messed up the cable or anything else but it booted up into windows so its still ok. The other HD did have windows 7 on it but I did a format on it before I started this . I just put it in a HD case to check it out and it shows 146GB (160gb) So did I miss  something  ???

Blair,

That is a fault of Winslows and Bios.

146 of 160gb is normal.

Windows and BIOS report low, always, and You loose a small portion for hidden system files and the recycle/Control files.

I found when I installed Win7, on my new 250 SATA, the drive would not recognize the Win7 disk. I installed XP to the first restart and then restarted the Win7 Disk and told it to new install after drive format. Went fine from there. Yes, I lost the start-up time for XP, about 30-35 min. But Win7 was FIGHTING me and I don't fight well.
:boing: :blowaway: :swords:

I stopped on the Win7 install after it was running because I needed to restart my XP drive on the new 640gb drive to further isolate my Toughbook for fieldwork, because I have over 145 gig (that's over 27,000 songs) of Music, I use as a DJ. With a 540gb partition, I can isolate my music without having to take support or secondary drives. Less hardware :headbang:

Well after countless times taking out/installing the sata mod I installed it this time using only the bare caddy / 160GB / sata board just to see what I was doing wrong.Into the BIOS I go... :pbjt: 160GB :pbjt: finally .So I must be cramming it in wrong or something before when I install it with all the foam because it's tight. I am running the harddrive erase overnight and when I get up I will install the restore disk and go from there.

Glad to hear you got it working Blair, :tool:

Now you understand what I meant when I said, It is a tighter fit. Be careful when squeeeeezing it back together. LOL.

I have two caddies that I now swap back and forth, one with XP on a 640gb. And Win7 on a 250gb. It just takes time to get it figured out, it is like sometimes the BIOS does not want to see the new drive and then all of a sudden there it is.

Don't be afraid to contact me if you have a problem.

I don't think so. I have a few CF-73's. The caddy is is very small and doesn't have a lot of padding in it. There just is enough room for the hard drive.
