I saw a X200 Thinkpad with a tire tread pattern on it's lid, which looked VERY cool.

Shame I can't find a pic anymore though.
A guy was selling them on ebay a few years ago. He had one on a CF-30.

OK, Here is how you do this. That fake Tire tread stuff is/was sold by Wal-Mart. It was in the Auto section. It was meant as a decorative mat, or some such thing. So step 1, find that.

Step 2. Lay your Toughbook upside down on a Photocopier.

Step 3
. Cut out a Template from the paper, and then use light glue to hold it on the back of the fake tire tread.

Step 4. Cut out your rubber "protector."

Step 5. Epoxy the hell out of this, or rubber glue if you, lack true commencement, to the top of your Toughbook.

Step 6. Stand back and admire the results and then post pics!

That s really and honestly all there is to that thing.

If I look at something long enough my creativity takes over. Sometimes this gets scary.
Lets move to the left of tire treads. My idea will take some effort and a saw.

Now "IF" I was going to do this, it would be on a CF30 or CF31 etc..Not a tablet //convertible like a CF19.
Lets use shoes as the source of the rubber tread. I am a bright color kind of guy.

Why stop at shoes? If you are a sports fan, then use your favorite ball. Cut open a football, basketball, soccer ball ......
We get some rules to follow.

I find the simplest way of protecting my CF-19 is to leave it in the cupboard.
CF-30C with standard keyboard and Windows XP.
CF-30K x 2, both running Windows 7.
CF-19F. Windows 7.
It's difficult not to collect these things.

I considered doing things like this and posted here about it some months ago. Then I realized that a Toughbook is not a Toughbook until it proves itself out on the field and carries appropriate scuffs, dings and scratches while still working perfectly. The bloody things are virtually armored and I treat them as such with absolutely no regrets.

Even using a laptop bag on a fully rugged Toughbook is like wrapping an M1A1 in bubble wrap. I just feels wrong :D

The factory leather UL 1604 Hazardous location covers are very nice though.
