You have thermal pads that go in between the CPU and the block of aluminum that goes from there to heat pipes spread out on the bottom of the laptop. The pads can dry out and shrink....

Nate... Welcome to the forum. Yes.. .That CF-30 should last you through college. If you can, max out the RAM and buy a SSD and will be shocked at the speed increase!

I see this as a 50/50 fault issue. You didn't look at the picture and they thought they were selling the right stuff... Maybe.

I'd suck it up and move along. You'll waste time with all the rabbit chasing. Buy another or find just the part you need to complete.
