Thanks, I got into the Recovery Mode and then dropped down to root. I was able to rebuild dmlight and then my password and user name worked!
Then, I noticed that I now have no sound... Still, one step at a time, my data is safe! More details to follow, thanks for the assistance!

Graphics and window manager SNAFU. I'd login in single user mode which you can achieve through the grub menu, probably Advanced options - rescue mode. From there you can use the CLI to remove stuff, I guess.... This time the problem does not even let me log in. You should be able to with my previou...

Interesting, and even worse is that Toughbooks DO NOT use NVidia graphics at all. :lauging: True, snide, but true..., however, the problem is the same with the Intel HD Graphics 3000. It goes into the same endless loop and I have had this problem before with the video drives corrupting the log-in. ...

Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS Xenial Xerus & the CF31J (WARNING)
This is a bit of a rant, but a short story, if you are considering "upgrading" from 14.04 LTS to 16.04, don't! There has been a problem in Ubuntu Linux since at least version 12 with Nvidia Video drivers. Well, the latest version carries on that "proud" tradition, even though it ...

Re: Microsoft as spam!
Once you have it set up with all programs, updates and drivers, Image it. That way, if this happens again, it will not be so painful. I have a different solution... Let me know if you want it.

Re: Side Scroll feature in Mouse Pad
Thanks Rob, but I would guess (I have never seen it installed on a PC...) that what you are showing me is Win10. My problem is in Ubuntu Linux. The mouse, including side scroll works great in the test found in Settings. But in actual use, it is very erratic.
Thanks for trying!
