Re: I thik that I broke my Ubuntu GUI!!!

I woke up and remember having your exact same problem a long time ago. My account was bonked but the guest account worked. If your not afraid of the command line we can fix this. What I did was: 1. Log into guess account, open terminal, su to root. 2. type "adduser", this creates a new acc...

Re: I thik that I broke my Ubuntu GUI!!!

First, Back up your data, I say again, back up your data. If you can log into a guest account, open a terminal. in the terminal type "su" leave a space and then your user name. It will ask for your password. "su" is not "superuser" but "switch user" it goes to...

Re: I thik that I broke my Ubuntu GUI!!!

A Live resuce cd can be downloaded from:

http://www.livecdlist.com/
(Thx UNCNDL1)

That would give you a way to boot, then fix your ubuntu partition.

Re: 2015 Linux and the Live CD List

Booted Lubuntu LXLE 12.04.3 Live and it worked pretty good, so I loaded it and tried it for a couple of days. It is a distro designed to gift life to older hardware. That is the last live distro I have laying around that hasnt been tried by someone else (grml, etc). The live version of Uberstudent a...

Re: 2015 Linux and the Live CD List

Uh, it was several weeks ago I think I just did - - modprobe -r ipw2100 ; modprobe ipw2100 It asked for license info and then carried on. Another Fedora distro recently did the same thing, except it asked during the install. If you need the module itself check here: https://packages.debian.org/searc...

Re: 2015 Linux and the Live CD List

This a little off topic, I ordered a Fedora 21 DVD to install on this CF-29. I will keep detailed reocrds of the install and other installs I have put on TB's and send it pm to all involved. I normally use Debian based, but need to learn RPM stuff so for this school semster I decided to force Fedora...

Re: 2015 Linux and the Live CD List

Isn't Grml aimed at System admin's? A live distro for troubleshooting? If it is that might be why its not for the faint of heart, they expect their targeted users to be willing to tweak stuff. UNCNDL1 would you consider changing the title of this post and listing all the Live and installed Linux dis...

Re: What does the lid have to do with it?

I dont know if this will help, but... I just loaded Fedora 18/KDE on a CF-29 MK1. Updates (852) were killing my bandwidth so I went to the library, I set the power settings to ignore the lid closing, I downloaded the updates and shut the lid as I walked over to get food, the screen went black even t...

Re: 2015 Linux and the Live CD List

I have a stack of LXF disks sitting here, I will start trying them out on my 29. I will try a few distros tomorrow and report back, I have things like Rosa, Sonar, Peppermint Four, 4MLinux,Zenwalk, Tiny Core, loads of Ubuntu, SUSE, Bodhi, Siduction, Tails-(Debian+Onion) for you sneaky folks, UberStu...
