as per Intel datasheets, the GM965 chipset (afaik that's what's in the Mk2) only supports 4GB.
I'm curios if it works (it wouldn't be the first time the specs are not updated for older stuff), but I wouldn't hold my breath.
good luck

congrats on your new candy^H^H^H^Homputer
enjoy & keep us posted
later edit: why do they (Panasonic Configurator) still list it as XGA, when it's WUXGA ?
did it come with 480GB SSD ?

Re: usb ports
that's a good MB design in toughbooks - having daughterboards for external ports like USB, that may be subject to physical/electrical damage, for an easy/cheap replacement.
you wouldn't want to replace the whole MB for that.

Re: CF-19 screen brightness
the 19mk3 should also work with 1 stick of 4GB DDR2 - one user had 8gb on it. I can give you the P/N of the model that he used.
I'm waiting for a 30mk3 on which I'll try to use the same kit (it's the same chipset as the 19, so it should work).

Re: And so I attempted to switch to a Samsung Ultrabook...
that ~6MP resolution on a 13.3" is insane ! (even more when you compare it to 1024x768 ~0.8MP)
Maybe a graphic designer/photoshopper would appreciate it on the move...
Anyways, that MX3 sounds really nice, it's very light and 14.5h runtime is a looong time.

Rob, can you upload it in the downloads section ? (I'll send it to you, if you don't have it on hand)
